It may very well be a yeast infection, but my pedi recommends using anti-fungal cream that is used for athletes foot. We have had that issue in the past and it clears up pretty fast. Use it 2xs a day for 5 days or so.
Im on vacation in FL with the fam and my 3 1/2 year old won't take a bath. Two nights in a row now I've tried to bathe her and she screams that the water hurts her private area. She says both her vagina and her bottom. I tried luke warm water one night and cool water the next but both appear to hurt her. She does not complain when she urinates and her urine appears normal (no blood and not cloudy). The area is red but not REALLY red and it does not appear to be a diaper rash (she still wears a pull up at night).
Anyone have any suggestions? We don't go home for 3 more days. Does she need to be seen?

It might be that there is some leftover residue from the tub cleaner. Maybe try showering instead of the bath??
Is it possible that your daughter is chafed? If she is has been doing a lot of walking or wearing a wet bathing suite this can happen. I recomend some AD ointment. This always does the trick. If she is not chafed I would see a Pedi.
Hmmm... Bottom is also sore....? Well, thinking along the lines that FL tends to have a higher humidity, plus summer heat... and the fact that she is still wearing a pull-up at night for a long period of time (which can hold moisture in, close to the skin...), I'd try some yeast infection creme (3 times a day for 7 days) & triple-paste diaper creme... The old school 2%, 7-day yeast infection kind. Just rub it on the outside of her vagina and rectum. If she has a yeast infection brewing, it could be irritated in the bathtub or with soap. That would perhaps explain why both areas are sore.
(Last summer, my daughter developed 2 or 3 yeast infections without any antibiotics to prompt them. I chalked it up to the summer heat, Texas humidity and her night-time diaper...)
Has she fallen or in anyway could have hurt the area? If it is red then I would put diaper rash cream on it. If she continues to complain, I would ask the hotel front desk or someone else if they know of any pedi or clinics that are good. Good luck and I hope it is nothing but a diaper rash.
See if you can't wipe her with baby wipes. We had the same problem, if you don't clean her off it will get worse. You can also use triple antibiotic ointment to help reduce the redness and pain. (we call it the magic boo boo cream so she lets us use it) It could be an irritant or she didn't wipe herself well and the dry urine has aggravated her.
good luck!
this happened to us. are you using the same soap and shampoo that you use at home? I would double check on that and put some AandD ointment all over that area for a couple of days. If it doesn't improve after a while, I'd see a doctor.
Take her in.
If it's a yeast infection, it needs to be kept as dry as possible. If you use the wrong cream, I believe it could make it worse. You don't want to lock in moisture with a yeast infection.
If it's something else like diaper rash, you will apply the ointments, creams.
Each diagnosis calls for very different treatment. You could make it worse by playing a guessing game. I hate going to a doc when I am out of town but that's a lot of pain for the little one.
Maybe try letting her stand up in the bath tub and just pour the water on her to bathe, or if you have a removable shower head let her take a shower she might think that is fun. Sometimes if too much soap is in the water or from bubble baths my kids tell me it hurts them after a bit.
She is in a different atmosphere so she may be just scared. If it still "hurts" once you get home and try her own comfort zone bath then I would call your nurses line at the doctor or take her in.
Good luck and hope you enjoy your vacation!
My three year old had this problem a couple of months ago and was also really red - we took her to the doc & they said it was strep throat & started her on antibiotics. I guess this type of strep shows up down there first in both girls & boys before they have the actual sore throat. At first we thought it was a yeast infection, or a bladder infection, but if she doesn't have a fever, it's probably not an infection. I guess the best thing to do is see if you can find an urgent care clinic to check her out - or give your pediatrician a call to see what they suggest. I hope she is better soon!!
Take your daughter to the doctor.
She could have a yeast infection. Take her to an urgent care. Your hotel should be able to tell you where one is.
She's probably allergic to the bubble bath or bath soap you are using. Is it a different kind than normal? I had this problem when I was a child. Hope this helps!
assuming that she is in water on her vacation? could it be a yeast infection . i have heard of kids getting these at young ages.
Has she been going in the ocean? The salt water and sand can really irritate private areas. I would get tucks medicated wipes and some desitin. Use the wipe first, and have her hold it against the irritated area for a minute. Then put on the desitin. Make sure before going to be beach you give the desitin another layer. It will work like a seal to keep the water out. I would try this for a few days if she's not complaining except at bath time. And just take her in the shower with you until it gets better. My daughter has very sensitive parts and this always happens to us on vacation.
Have her stand in the tub when you bath her till you can see the pedi. till then I agree with the "Butt Creme" or AD ointment.
mu daughter said the same thing she ended up an uti it was from bubble bath she wouldnt even go potty it hurt her so bad.not sure if that is it for yall but just a heads up.Good luck

Perhaps you can put some A&D or Dr. Smith's Butt Cream on it and see if this will help and consider a sponge bath for the next few days and see if get better.
If not, I would make an appt with the pedi as soon as you get home.
Yes yes yes now not when you get home
So...I am going to go a slightly different direction than the previous posters...
purchase some baking soda and add it to her bath water...do not put any soap into the water and use a cup to gently pour water over the irritated areas versus scrubbing it clean.
when she goes potty do not use wipes, unless she is poopy, and let her air dry as much as possible...
This could be a number of things...If she is going into pools a lot find out if they use chlorine or salt for their pool maintenance...she could have a sensitivity to either.
If she is spending the majority of her time in the ocean then she could have a sensitivity to salt. The baking soda will neutralize the salt content in the bath water and soothe her sensitive areas...
If it is a yeast infection the baking soda in the bath water should still have a soothing effect on her. Like I said, no soap and no washcloth to the area for a while...
You can also put a bit in her nighttime pullup to keep the area soothed and keep the wetness away from her delicate skin...
make sure to give her yogurt with active cultures which will help with the yeast infection (if it is one) and if she can't or won't eat yogurt they make the cultures in a chewable pill called acidopholous you can pick up at any pharmacy...
with only 3 more days left in your vacation, I would call your PCP and make an appointment for the day after you get home and do the above things (most of which I bet your PCP would suggest or at least agree with) and wait until you get home versus seeing someone out of state....
Good luck and I hope your little one feels better!!!
Sounds like a yeast infection.
Sounds like UTI or a yeast infection. Little girls can get them from bubble baths if they take one to frequent, being away on vacation its likely that she got it from the treated waters at the pool or slides or even the ocean. To make her comfortable for now use diaper rash medicine or yeast infection cream. Watch her for fever in case it is a UTI.
