My son will be 3 in the fall and has a language delay (receptive and expressive). We have been with Early Steps for quite a while and will soon transfer into the Fidlers program through the public school. My question is: does anyone know of any other resources?
We aren't progressing that much with our therapy and would love some resources and or tips to help him at home. He does have a pretty good vocabulary (about 40 -50 words), but doesn't use 2 words or phrases at all. he also doens't lsten too many commands. Only ifit's something very simple. His speech therapist is great but doesn't give me information on what to do with him at home. Any advice would be appreciated!

We have just finished putting my son in the FDDLRS program. It took us since February for them to finish the evaluation. In the meantime we took him to All Children's therapy center in Largo. I believe there is one in Oldsmar as well. We LOVE our speech therapist. she gives me worksheets every week to work at home with him. We have a weekly hour session (due to insurance the co-pay is high so instead of 2 30min sessions a week we do 1 hour and it works out great for my son). I notice a HUGE difference in my son since we have been taking him. He has done 10 sessions with the therapist. Since he has been accepted in the FDDLRS program he will be going to a preschool in the fall that specializes in speech. Hope it helps. I know the struggle you are going through.

You are absolutely right that he needs carry over at home for faster success!
I work at All Children's Hospital with speech pathologists (I'm an audiologist)and know that they insist on parents being part of the thearpy sessions so that they can carry over at home. They provide "homework" and have parents participate rather than observing. If attending the sessions is difficult, they provide some early and late appointments, depending on the wait list. They also have many outreach locations which may be closer to home than St. Pete. You should consider calling them for an evaluation ###-###-####).
I would also suggest requesting a therapist for him when he gets enrolled in FDLRS and work with him/her closely to be sure the goals are appropriate and carry them over at home as well.
Good luck! I'm sure he will catch up soon with a conscientious mom like you.
