I am looking to get bunk beds for my kids. I like the look of the wooden ones best but I was told that the metal ones are more sturdy...What do y'all think? I also need help in finding the right place to purchase the bunk beds. I'm hoping to keep the price range under $200. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

Just wanted to throw in my two cents... Be real careful with bunk beds and a two year-old. My good friend's litte girl, who is two, just recently fell from the top of one and broke her humerus (the bone in the upper arm) completely in half. Recovery has not been very fun... just something to keep in mind.

I actually have some bunk beds for sale. They are nice, but the ladder is built in. We have an almost 2-year-old climber, so we need to be able to take the ladder down. (You may have the same problem.) Also, when you climb up the ladder, you have to climb over the foot of the top bed. Our six-year-old could do it easily, but we weren't sure about our younger ones. Email me privately if you are interested! I will give you all the details. ____@____.com

I have never heard of wooden bunk beds breaking. However, a friend's metal bunk beds started to bend after her children had clibed up and down them for several years. I would definitely prefer wood.

Hope this helps!

When we were growing up we had a wooden bunk bed. I don't remember having any issues with two kids on it or even an adult and a child. Still you have to keep in mind that they all have weight limits on the top bunk.

There are a few at the Room Store that are solid wood that you can pick up at the store and save on shipping. The range from $250 - $399.

I am not sure, but I thought the metal were less sturdy. I would find a floor model and get in it yourself or at least shake it to see if you think the bed is sturdy. I was shopping for a friend online last mont and didn't find much in for 200, but a few for 300. Try IKEA. They have several. Also, most of my friends have the wooden bunks that can be seperated. This way you have options for bunk or two separate beds. Good luck!

My personal experience-the metal ones are not very sturdy, the wooden are much more secure and able to stand up to the "wear & tear" of children.

In my experience, wooden ones are more sturdy than metal. Have you been to IKEA in Frisco? You might want to check out their beds. The pries are reasonable and they have both wood and metal. In my experience (again!), you get what you pay for there, BUT if you aren't looking for them to last a lifetime, it might be a good idea to go that route and see what you can find. If nothing else, IKEA is a fun place to shop and get decorating ideas. :)

I just bought my son bunk beds at The Dump. It's a new furniture store at 635 and Beltline in Irving. It's only open Fri, Sat, Sun. They were reasonably priced. They are wood. I do not know about the difference between metal and wood. Hope this is helpful.
