Need Good Vacuum for Steps

I am looking for the best vacuum for steps for the most reasonable price. We have a Dyson for our upstairs (carpet) and a Roomba for the main floor (all hardwoods) but neither of those work on the stairs (the Dyson is too bulky and heavy).

I DO NOT want to spend a lot of money, but I dont want to waste money on something that does not work. In my head I am thinking that a really powerful Dustbuster would be perfect but I dont think they make such a thing.

Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Walmart has a vaccumn for $39.00. It is light and has a hose with attachment for stairs. I clean houses and that's what I use.

Well not exactly when I bought it it was a year ago and it was $40 something. I own two of them.

The dyson makes a stair attachment, and the hose stretches long enough to vacuum all the way up the stairs. Just in case you don't find anything else that works.

Hi D.,
Any vaccum that works well on carpet works on hardwood too.You just need attachments for stairs. I have a plain ole Singer hepavac from Walmart.Cost me
80$.I used it in our previous house that was all hardwood floors. Its 6 yrs old now and it will pull fibers out of the carpet. :)
Dysons are supposed to be lightweight.LOL.

In our head you are right. :o) I use (basically) a dust buster on a stick for my stairs. Its by Eureka and its called a Cordless Quick Up. The battery lasts long enough for me to vacuum the stairs very good and the landing, and I also go over the kids rooms (hardwood) and bathrooms on the second floor while I'm up there. I've had it for about 5 years and I really like it.

Since you have a Dyson, have you looked into the stair attachment? I LOVE it, it is the only thing that really gets my stairs looking nice in between steam cleans. It has a rotating head that attaches to your hose so you can clean the stairs like you would your floors without hauling the whole cleaner up and down the stairs.

We love our Dirt Devil corded hand-vac. Just wish I was smart enough to get it at a thrift store!!

The cord is long enough to get the job done and it is light weight, too. The bags are getting harder to find, Mar-Beck should have them. Stock up!

Hi,

Go to your nearest thrift store and pick up a corded Red Devil hand vacuum for only a few dollars.

It is lightweight and has the power and agitation you need.

D.,
There have been some vacuum discussions on this site before. I would suggest going to a Consumer Reports Annual report issue (can be accessed at your library). They usually do a good job of rating such things.
