The fabric is generally called "blackout" fabric and is usually a liner.
I did a search for "black out fabric" on google and came up with a few places you can buy it from.
Good luck!
I want to put new curtains in my daughter's room that will help it be dark in there during nap time. Does anyone know what kind of fabric would be best to make them out of, or where I could buy some cheap ones?

If you don't want to put a black out roller shade in, you can purchase black-out fabric at JoAnnes and sew it to the back of any curtain fabric. I lined my daughters pretty pink curtains with it - works great to block out summer radient heat as well!
They sell the black out curtains on onestepahead(dot)com. But I got black out shades from countrycurtains(dot)com and they are awesome. They really block all incoming light. Good luck!
It is a great investment if you want to called any shades company. It is easy to do it yourself as well. Measure your window, go to home depot(or lowe's), the sell blackout roll shades, they will cut the shade to size. not difficult to install as well. Then you can make pretty drapes any fabric you like (SAS is a good discount fabric store).
We just put up the temporary black-out shades under our normal ones. You can't see them but they do an awesome job of blocking the light :).
Hello!
A good source for curtains of all kinds is IKEA.
For my daughter's room I got dark blue fabric for the street side of the curtain and a pretty, but still darkish fabric for the inside and just sewed tab curtains for her room. It gets the room so dark that she wants the night stand light on even during noon naptime : )
Hope this helps!

Hi M.,
There's a place on Greenway Road just east of cave creek that's a hotel liquidator outlet. They have black out drapes there and they sell them by the panel. I think I paid $12-15 per panel for mine. It's always hit or miss wether they will have what you like at the time. If you haven't been there and you like deals... you'll love checking it out. You can also get there by taking greenway parkway. Those two greenways come to a point and the Hotel Liquidators is on the corner.
I wouldn't have any idea on what kind of fabric to buy to make curtins but EVERY WEEK Anna's Linen's has the sunlight blocking curtins for very cheap. They are around 20 dollars a panel, and for the kind that blocks the sunlight they usually start around 79 dollars and higher. I hope that is some help to you. Anna's Linen's is located on 59th Avenue & Bell Rd Next to Walmart. Have a great night!!
We bought our black out curtains for our daughters room at Bed, Bath and Beyond.
