Another idea is cereal. I bought my daughter a thermos we fill with milk, put cereal in a baggie and she has cereal for lunch. This is the only thing I have sent that she eats. lol
Hi all - I am packing my kids' lunch for their school year, and I was wondering if any of you can suggest some healthy lunch menu? My oldest, 2nd grader, is such a picky eater that I have a hard time fixing something that he will eat. My middle one who just started kindergarten, and she is easy to fix meal for. I am having a hard time being creative and am trying to be careful about what to pack. I pack chicken sandwich, apple sauce, cheese crackers, and water caprisun. I don't pack chips or chocolate pudding, any of the sweet stuff. They both like apples, but they prefer to have it peeled first before eating. However, if I peel an apple and pack it in their lunch, they won't eat it because it turns brown. Both like peanut butter jelly sandwich, but for school policy, peanut butter is not allowed so this really limit my choices of what to pack. I would love to hear your ideas what to pack for lunch - thanks!

I always send apples with my daughter - I just squeeze a little fresh lemon juice over them in a baggy and rub it around. My dtrs apples never turn brown. She loves taking this. Hope this helps. As for lunch, my dtr takes soup in a thermos - mac and cheese in a thermos with fruit and yogurt - rolled up sandwich in tortilla and baked chips. enjoy

Sometimes you can find apple slices in the produce section already peeled and sliced, like they have at McDonalds that tend to hold up well. For sanwiches, you may try bacon, or turkey bacon it you prefer, cheese sandwich, fresh berries, string cheese, yogurt, cheese and crackers, lunchables or the like. Peanutbutter was always a staple of my lunches. My fave as a kid was a banana, paenutbutter crackers, yogurt and string cheese. Good luck!
Yours may be too young for spice, but the same idea as the turkey rolled in the tortilla, but I skipped the tortilla...
A piece of turkey spread with a cream cheese/sririchi sauce blend, then layer another piece of turkey, more of the blend, then roll and stick a tooth pick in it or seal it with the blend.
Sririchi Chili Sauce goes along way, about 1/8 tsp to 1 tblsp of cream cheese. Mix it up good. It gives a good flavor and a little spice.
Hi L.,
My son went to a preschool that didn't allow peanut butter either. I got soy butter instead which didn't taste too great to me but my son did eat it and loved it. Of course I had to put a little more jelly on it to hide the taste a bit :). Have you tried those Reynolds handi-vac bags with the machine that sucks all of the air out? They are in the grocery isle for around ten bucks and they work wonders with keeping apples to not turn brown. I send apples to school with my son now all of the time and they don't turn brown. I hope this helps! Also you might send grilled cheese sandwiches...that's what I sent with my son today.

I make a huge batch of trail mix- Pretzels, cheerios, chex, raisins, craisins, granola, cheese crackers, dark chocolate morsels, coconut, are some suggestions. Also, carrots and low fat, homemade ranch dip, jell-o, blue chips and salsa. You may try rolling up sliced cheese and turkey breast, or whatever lunch meat they like in a tortilla, microwave it for a few seconds, just long enough to get the cheese to melt a little, and slice it up into spirals. Hope this helps.
Try the Chiquita Apples already packaged. They are a little higher but they do not turn brown. I have bought a few packages and they have coupons in some of them. I also buy the carrots and ranch, my kids love the and my daughter is very picky. As for sweets, dry packing dry cereal sometimes.. Hope this helps!
We have eaten almond butter as a substitute - it might be allowed and I think tastes better than soy butter.
hi L.,
I'll try not to repeat-you have gotten great responses...have picky stepsons 10 & 5 and have gotten creative for them! No complaints anymore...they even ask for things I make now.
I use the Hawaiian sweet rolls for sandwiches-they are mini sized. One of their favorites is a dinner leftover...bbq sauce & chicken breasts cooked in the crock pot, then shredded for sandwiches. They really are good hot or cold.
all natural fruit "leathers", yogurts, mini bagels and cream cheese, frozen grapes, fruit cups, orange "smiles", small thermos of soups in fall/winter, dried fruits...they especially like cranberries and blueberries.
have fun :)
Have you tried dipping the peeled apples in Sprite? I've heard it keeps them from browning. I also send quesadillas w/ my kids. They don't mind them being cold and I can do cheese, bean or chicken. Also, tortillas with a layer of meat and cheese, rolled up and cut in slices goes over pretty well too. Good luck.
