Hi Moms,
I am looking for some fun craft ideas for my My 5 yr old (almost 6) to do at home.
She really enjoy's doing crafts and I'm just not able to come up with very many so I'd really like to get some ideas from other Moms.
I want to keep her from getting bored while we're at home this Summer and expand her creative mind!
Thanks SO much in advance for any crafty ideas!

Have you tried going to Michaels? They have a ton of dollar crafts. Small crafts that you could do once a week for the whole summer. When my nephews show up I always have a craft for them to do. We have made picture frames out of twigs, seashells, popsicle sticks, etc... Another great place is www.orientaltradingcompany.com. There crafts are typically 6 to a lot. But I like to buy them because they are great in a pinch. Family Fun like other Mom's here is a lifesaver!

Happy Crafting!

One fun and crafty thing is to get a plain white t-shirt and Crayola fabric markers, and let her design her own clothes. This will work on any cotton or polyester fabric items - she could make a totebag, or apron. We're actually going to do this with a shirt for Dad for Father's Day.

Another cute idea I saw was to clip different letters from a magazine to spell out her name on a piece of paper (along with pretty flowers or designs she might like), then you can take that to a copy shop like Kinko's and make her own personalized paper and notepads.

Sidewalk chalk is always fun for the summer.

Something else I saw once that wasn't really arts and crafts but looked like a fun summer project was making your own root beer at home with dry ice in a 5 gallon plastic bucket - you can probably find the complete recipe on the internet somewhere. That seems like it would be great for a hot day.

Another art project I've done is to get the cheap picture frames and let her use markers to draw on the glass. Then you take tin foil or colored mylar paper from the art store and crinkle it up and place it in the frame behind the picture she has drawn on the glass, and it makes it look sparkly and fancy.

This is a great website http://fun.familyeducation.com/ They have a educational fun activities divided by age group or school grade. There are indoor "rainy day" activities, out door activities, gift making ideas, etc. THere is even a section on kindergarten readiness and activites especially for kindergartners. Good luck!

Micheals has a time for toddlers and for older kiddos...
Also Joanns has some kits too for 5 year olds.
Large costume beads are always fun and she can make necklaces and braclets over and over...

I used this craft for a church, secret pal party. But, it would be fun for the kids too!! If you get styrofoam(sp??) cups and put them on a baking sheet, in a 350 oven for about 3-4 minutes. They come out in the shapes of hats (some look like sombraros I also had some that looked like peter pan hats or old fashioned ladies hats!!) But, right when you take them out of the oven, they are cool to the touch so there isn't any burning danger. And then, you can paint them any color you want (with acrylic paint) and glue beads, glitter, feathers....whatever you want to make your hat look like!!

It's fun and CAN BE in-expensive!!
