Hi S.,
I recommend taking a trip to your local library.
The people in youth services are usually very helpful in pointing you in the right direction. I taught my son to read with the BOB BOOKS series..each book has fun and simple illustrations and focuses on a different sound.. short a.. long e.. for example..

the library may have them and you can buy them at the bookstore.. garage sales have lots of great priced books for kids too! Good luck.. reading to your child is the best thing you can do to help insure school success!

I know if you look at Barnes and Knoble you can find kits that contain phonics type books. for example we just bought a packet of Backyarigan themes books with varios phonics lessons. I also know the BOB books are good.

Hi S..
Dr. Seuss is great with introducing phonics. 1 fish 2 fish and the Foot Book I think are the best. Your local library should also have a "phonics" section in the childrens section. there is a whole series called "My U Book" or "My R book". I used those alot when I taught kindergarten. Good luck.

Hi S.,
I don't know if they have books, however my daughter is a big fan of the "Leapfrog" group of DVD's that are for beginners. She has been watching them since she was 2 and they really keep her interest. We have the first one that introduces the alphebet and the "Talking Word Factory" which is a phonics based DVD that is both entertaining and educational. It's one of her favorites and yes, she does walk around sounding out words everywhere from the name on the dishwasher to words in books. I recommend them to everyone.
Good luck.

I like Margaret Hillert books. They are older books "1980's" , but I like them for beginner readers better then the books that are out there today. Check your library.
