I have used both Maytag and whirlpool. The Whirlpool gave us grief to no end. So we switched to Maytag. I have bought really old used Maytag's and had no problems. I have recently bought the new Maytag front loaders. I LOVE them. I bought the drawer that goes under them that I store odds and ends in, but it gives them the height that I have no bending over issues! My washer is not belt driven, but gear driven so it should last even longer. It also does Sanitary hot for my towels. It is huge. I do wash every other week now. And still get it all done (and folded) in one day. I have 4 kids.

I love my front-loaders. I have the Kenmore Elite HE5T series which has the steam options on both the washer and dryer. Although adding the two pedestals to your purchase increases the already high price, I would still have to recommend them as it does make it a lot easier...No bending since they place the door right around waist level. Good luck!

We also recently purchased an LG (HE) washer and dryer. Although I fought spending that much on a set, I'm glad we did. We save about 300/year in detergent costs alone, not to mention energy costs! I can put sleeping bags and comforters in it and it has steam cycles that get rid of the pesky allergens that used to plague my son. I don't mean to sound like a commercial, but it was a great investment. Good luck shopping!

A front loading washer will give you a bigger capacity. There is no agitator to take up room and its also gentler on the clothes. We bought a LG a few years ago - it was priced lower than the 'major' brands and has been great!

I have the LG front loaders (I think the tron? I'm too lazy to get up and check at the moment! lol) and love them! I have 7 kids, so as you can imagine laundry is a state of being here. They have been great and have saved me about 4 or 5 loads a week b/c they hold so much!

We just got a hot deal on a mismatched LG washer and dryer. The dryer has a feature called "SteamFresh" which will de-wrinkle just about anything. I hate ironing and am in love with this dryer.
The washer is great, too. We used to have Maytag Neptunes, which were also front loaders and good, but the LGs are so user-friendly and thorough with none of the mold issues I fought in the door of my Neptune. Also, I just love that all the bottons are on the front of the machines so even my three-year-old can stand on a stool and learn to operate the washer and dryer! I recommend getting the pedestals if you choose front-loaders; that's meant a lot less stooping to move laundry around and was worth it to me.
Best wishes!

We bought a LG super capacity dryer and ultra capacity washer about a year ago and I LOVE them! I can cram an entire load of jeans or towels into the washer and they ALL come out clean. I love that there are so many settings on both. I do a sanitize wash on things that really need it (which takes over an hour) or a quick wash on smaller, less soiled loads (takes about 1/2 hour). I can also program either one to suit my needs. My husbands shirts always seemed to shrink when I dried them before....I was hanging ridiculous amounts of clothes to keep this from happening....and I don't have that problem now because of the ability to program the machine. The washer also has a tub clean option, which is really nice and deffinately makes a difference on the smell. Hope this helps! Good Luck!

We shopped around for about 4 months and finally bought the Maytag 3000 series front load washer and dryer. Both are large capacity. The 3000 series is a commercial grade series which means that they are built of parts that have to last twice as long as the personal grade machines. The average washer and dryer lasts about 7 years now but the commercial grades are good for 13-14 years. We have 3 teenage girls so we want them to LAST!

There are many cycles; from delicates and sanitize to extra wash for jeans and large loads of towels. I fit 12 of the super sized bath towels in once, and have done 8 pairs of adult sized jeans with other clothes as well. I have also done 3 blankets at one time. You can also set it for smaller loads. The dryer does a regular cycle, touch up and wrinkle prevent. We didn't get the steam because my girls already spray their clothes and use the touch up cycle.

The front load machines get your clothes cleaner with less water and soap. The washer runs slightly longer but rinses more thoroughly and spins more completely. This means the dryer doesn't use as much energy to dry the clothes. The dryer is your energy sap. We have had ours for about 3 months now and I am SO happy with them! I can do a load or two each day if I want and it is SO easy! They also have a beep notice when they are done. I am glad because they run much quieter than the ones I have had. We spent about $2500 and it was SO worth it! That was including a storage stacker to put between them that holds soap, fabric softener and other cleaning supplies. I hope you find what you need!

I bought a Whirlpool washer last year with the steam and loved it, but it vibrated a lot. I don't think that it was a Whirlpool thing, but a repair company thing, but the whole issue was infuriating, and FINALLY Whirlpool said that they would replace it. Unfortunately, they discontinued our model and the new model won't fit in our laundry room. Yesterday we went and bought the Samsung. The Lowe's guy said that Bosh and Whirlpool are the highest sellers. Samsung is right behind them. Electrolux is new to the market, but seems to be doing really well too. Hope this info helps.

I have a Whirlpool super capacity plus. It went along with the super capicity plus top load washer. We've had it about 12 years. It's always worked great.

My washer went out (5 kids and lots of use) so I bought a front load washer (Whirlpool Duet), which holds a lot more. Even though I didn't get the dryer that matches the front loader the 12 yr old whirlpool dryer is working fine.

Now I can wash my king sized quilts at home with the new washer. My drier works on the quilts...but I have to untangle them and flip them around to get the wet center spots to the outside, since the dryer isn't as big as the front load dryer that goes with the new washer. Since the dryer works I didn't see a reason to replace it unless we decide to rearrange and have a stacked washer/dryer set.

My dryer has an "automatic" setting which is supposed to detect when the clothes are dry enough. It's the setting I almost always use. It will also continue to tumble periodically for another 30 minutes or so (if you have that setting turned on) to keep the clothes from getting wrinkled if you don't pull them out right away.

Oh -- about mold on front loaders. I've had my front load Duet washer for a year now. Never any problem with mold. The manual says to leave the door cracked open when it's not in use...so I do that.

** Make sure if you have young kids that you use the "CONTROL LOCK" feature so it can't be turned on by little kids. I heard of a couple of kids being killed in them. One was a 3-4 year old, climbed in and the 18-24 month old pushed the door shut and started pressing buttons and it turned on.
