My now 1 year old daughter has been battling allergies since she was 6 weeks old. We have tried Zyrtec and now Singulair and nothing has improved. She has had 8 ear infections within the past year and 2 sinus infections. The medicine that she was on for her most recent ear infection gave her a yeast infection, which we just got rid of. However she still digs in her ears, especially the one where the infection was. Could this have something to do with after effects or pain from more teeth coming in? I feel like nothing we give her helps her out but only leads to more problems. We are seeing a new pedi tomorrow to get a second opinion. She has been on Singulair for the past 3 weeks and since then she will wake up crying for at least 45 minutes at a time, sometimes to the point where nothing makes it better, she just passes out from exhaustion. Could this have something to do with her incisors coming in? Her poor gums are very swollen on the sides and towards the back. I would like it if you had some advice on natural methods for us to test. I know it seems like i just keep listing problems but she also has a swollen kidney that we go periodically to check on to make sure it isn't enlarging, this affects her urinating, she has to slightly push to void. Well any advise you mothers may have would be great. Thank in advance to your feedback!

Based on her history of chronic infections, it doesn't sound like teething is the root cause of her ailments. She very well might be teething... However I don't think that would cause her reoccurring infections.

I once lamented to our pediatrician that my daughter was born congested! Around 10 months, my daughter got her first sinus infection... Between then and 23 months, no kidding, she had chronic sinus infections every 6-8-10 weeks... Ear tubes at 15 months (to no avail, because sinus infections persisted), ER visits due to developing allergies to repetitive use of antibiotics, pink eye, multiple rounds of sinus x-rays, diagnostics to rule out a heart condition... almost did the test for CF however she was diagnosed with an allergy to cows milk/dairy right before we went down the CF path. I wish I had clued in to the fact that an allergy to cows milk proteins could cause congestion and sinus issues. That would have saved me so much anxiety and stress, not to mention keeping her from developing antibiotic allergies!

Since getting my daughter totally off cows milk, she has been antibiotic free. I strongly suggest that you take her to a pediatric allergist and test to see if she has any allergies before you inadvertently repeat my mistakes.

Hi E.
How sad that your little one is suffering so. I know that can make for a miserable household when the little ones are not well.
I can tell you from my experience that the first thing you should do is detox your home. so many allergies are directly linked to household cleaners and laundry detergents etc. I am not trying to sell you anything, I only know from my families experience with allergies and drs prescriptions what worked for us. If you PM me I can give you more details and send you to the link with the research and you can make your decision from that.
good luck and blessings

Look I can help but only if you follow what I suggest. I am not a Dr. but I am a wellness consultant with over 15yr of real life results. Stop medicating your child as you can see it is not fixing the problem.

See a naturopath!!! I can't say enough good things about the gals I see. This morning one of my co-workers was complaining about how sick she is due to the high pollen counts on everything yesterday, and I had no symptoms at all! I had horrible allergies since moving back to Houston from West Texas 4 years ago. I started seeing these ladies about 3 months ago for hormonal issues, and my allergies are now cleared too. They also work with kiddos! I had no idea my son was allergic to milk, which was causing so many of his problems, including ear infections which wouldn't clear. We just had tubes put in his ears, which could have been avoided if we had only known. I am so inspired, I am looking into studying naturopathy myself! It's really amazing!!

Feel free to PM me for more info if you'd like.

Hi E.,
I suggest taking her to a naturopathic dr. (ND). They painlessly test for all kinds of issues. Plus, whatever treatment they suggest is homeopathic, natural and no side effects. Mine has been great for me. A health food store, some pharmacies, Whole Foods and Central Markets carry homeopathic teething tablets which work nicely. HTH!

The antibiotics she's taking may be clearing up the infection, but fluid may still be in her drum, causing discomfort. Some pedis recheck for infection, but not fluid. To check, they attach a bulb to the otoscope, which allows them to send a little puff of air into the ear. If the fluid doesn't go away, her hearing and speech will be affected.

I had a similar situation with my oldest daughter. She had upper respiratory infections every 6 weeks from the time she was 2 weeks old. We also tried every allergy medicine. Finally, we went to an ear, nose and throat doctor (ENT), who suggested tubes for her ears. When he went to put in the tubes, he removed her adnoids. They were enlarged so the fluid never drained. She has barely been sick since (almost 3 years). Also, with the fluid in her ear, she could not hear and her language was affected. She is fine now. Good luck!

WOW. I am not sure what to tell you on most of those things. I've not dealt with allergies nor ear infections in my children so I don't know.

For teething, a much more natural approach is to have her wear an amber necklace. It has to be actual baltic amber, not just amber colored beads. Amber works by sitting against your skin, where the warmth helps release the natural oils that then absorb into your skin. Hazelwood is another type of necklace you can have her wear. I wore hazelwood during pregnancy and it relieved the horrible heartburn I was dealing with. This lady makes lots of amber necklaces and hazelwood necklaces for children and adults and you'll also find lots of info about how they work www.hyenacart.com/inspiredbyfinn She ships very quickly, too.

Good luck with everything.

My little boy who is now 5 yrs old had a lot of similar issues concerning allergies and ear infections. We had tubes put in his ears and it made all the difference in the world! It was wonderful. I was concerned at first after the tubes because he kept pulling at his ears, but it was because he could finallly hear more clearly and everything sounded a little louder to him. Good luck! I would definitely recommend taking your little girl to see an ENT.

A baby should not be on medications of any kind! The FDA prohibits any clinical trials including children, so all dosage is a "guess." Plus more and more evidence of the long-term effects on the liver, kidneys, and bone joints are coming to light.

This sounds like birth-related trauma.

Allergies are basically the immune system (controlled by the nervous system) gone wild.

Try chiropractic. The brain stem controls the autonomic nervous system. The brain stem goes down into the first vertebra of the neck. Think what happens during birth when the doctor grabs the baby by the head and pulls and twists?

Hi E.,

My son is going through the exact same thing regarding allergies - he's 9 months. His pediatrician diagnosed him w/allergies and sinus problems at around 3 months and it's been on ongoing battle w/multiple medicines, ER visits, weekly visits to the doctor, late nights, etc. This past week, I took him for a 2nd opinion and the doctor did a simple allergy blood test - NEGATIVE for allergies. Anyway, I was floored b/c all this time we've been treating him for something that's not even the problem. She's thinking that all his problems are related to his ears, may need tubes but is monitoring him for another week and if needed, she'll refer me to a pediatrician Ear, Nose and Throat doctor. This week, she put him on Amoxicil and Ear drops, it's helped, he hasn't been fussy at all this week and finally slept through the entire night! Wooohoo! Also, make sure that the pediatrician does the ear test, one of the other ladies identified it in their response - it checks the fluid BEHIND the eardrum instead of your pediatrician just looking in the ear. Anyway, all this say, GET A SECOND OPINION - it won't hurt, you may get different results. Good luck to you.

Since she is 1 this may not help, but I would take a serious look at her diet (and yours if you are breastfeeding). It may not just be pollen she is allergic to. You may want to go back to basics and start from scratch and reintroduce foods one at a time. Alot of work, I know.

Ask your doctor if she can have honey. Local honey helps people with allergies since it is made from the pollen of local flowers. But it has to be local (often found in farmers markets) and cannot be mixed with other sources of honey.

You may want to see and ENT to see if she need tubes. I am not one to jump onto the surgery bandwagon, but they really helped my youngest. An ENT may be best anyway if she is having constant trouble with allergies and ear infections.

Good Luck!

My dd had the same problems with bronchitis and allergies. I finally said enough is enough I want her off of all of the allergy meds (4-6 per day). I told the doctor I wanted an allergy test. She was not happy with my decision for some reason. I think she was offended that I would go to someone else. We went to the specialist and after two vistits he concluded that she had no allergies and just an infection in her nose that caused all of the draining. DD just needed an antibiotic to clear it up. He did a swab test in her nose to find that out. She has been free of allergy meds since then. It was almost two years of meds. He said that most likely she caught a virus and it just didnt fully clear up. The first doctor never gave the right antibiotic for it. This could cause drainage in the ears as well causing ear infections, runny nose and sore throat. Have them swab her nose and check for infection.

Teething causes discomfort but should not cause fever or other symptoms. Usually if fever is present then the child has a virus or cold in conjuntion with. Lots of people do not know or understand this.

Goodluck!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!! God bless her! Yes, I agree you MUST start looing at your household and what is in it that she may be having this reaction to. Believe it or not there is more danger in your household than you may realize. According to the consumer protection Agency- 150 checmicals found inthe home are connected to allergies, infections, birth defects, cancer and psychollogical disorders.
If you use any of the following STOP and dump them out:
Lysol- registered pesticide
Johnson&Johnson- cancer causing
Dove- same as above

I could go on and on PLEASE do your research it will benefit you for a lifetime. She deserves better than drugs and endless pain. There are alternatives believe me. Hope for the best and keep me informed as far as her recovery or if you need more places where to research let me know.
I'll be glad to help.

There could still just be some pressure in her ears and also teething can make them mess with their ears also. I would fins out how much motrin is safe for her to take with her weight to help her rest and also for her pain. I use baby nighttime oragel on my son casue he has had a terrible time woith teething. I am not saying it is just teething but you could give this a try and see if it gives her some relief and if not I would request to see an ear nose and throat dr. She will still wake at night cause my son does but it may cut down the amount of times and the length. also use the oragel again when she wakes. I only give him the motrin when he is going through the teething at night at bedtime then I discontinue use till the next bout of teething. I hope this helps you and also your little girl some

We were having problems with our son too. His ear infections and antibiotics all the time. After taking him to two different doctors we finally asked one of them to refer us to a Ear nose and throat specialest. Our son needed tubes at 10months. He still had a very bad infection in one ear and we had to replace that tube at 11 months. They are a cure all our son still has infections except now they can drain we see the draniage and put special drops in his ears. Its much better now. Good luck sorry your little one is not feeling well.

See a naturpath asap! You are doing serious damage by medicating your child so heavily. The stuff is poison, has endless negative side affects (have you read them all?) and obviously doesn't help. There are very effective natural solutions that won't hurt your baby. I would seriously switch because this doctor is all about the kick backs he receives from dishing out medication, not about what's best for your little one. Sick and wrong. Start detoxing your household, natural chemical free cleaners and detergents, get rid of sugar and white flour and feed your family fresh, organic fruits and vegetables in abundance. Whole grains and brown rice. Get a good probiotic and skip the fruit juices which unless you juice it yourself have been boiled to death and have no vitamins left in them, just acid that contributes to yeast and other issues. Do you have pets? Don't know if pet dander is an issue or not, but your child deserves a better start in life than to be drugged up at such an early age. Please start researching and educating yourself.

E. - How tough to have one so young so uncomfortable. My 4 year old daughter has had allergy issues since six months of age. She went through the same drugs as yours. Clarinex liquid and Sudal chewables are what has finally worked with her. I don't know if there are approved dosages for infants, but it might be worth asking about. My little one had a runny nose every time a new tooth came along, but not as much pain as you are describing. We see a pediatric allergist. Hope you get relief soon.

You're going to think I'm nuts, but take your daughter to the chiropractor for her ears. My little boy, now almost two, had the exact same problems. I started seeing the chiropractor when he was 8 months old, and he hasn't had an ear infection or been on antibiotics since. Before that, my pediatrician was leaning towards tubes, which I did not want to do. The chiropractor visits only last about 10 minutes, and she aligns the vertebrae in his neck so the fluid in his ears will drain instead of getting infected. I use Dr. Stacy Croft, ###-###-####. She treats anyone under 5 years old for FREE, so it's worth trying, and it's made a world of difference for my son. Her office in in Sugar Land on Eldridge, just north of Hwy 90.

My son had an ear infection every 3-4 weeks for the first 10 months of his life. He also had allergies as well. The very best thing we ever did for him was put tubes in his ears at 10 months. He just turned 3 and has only had "1" ear infection since we did tubes. I have no advice on natural methods for pain. If my child is in pain I give them pain reliever - whether it's ears, teeth,or throat. I remember having ear infections as a kid and the seering pain that accompanied them. Tylenol at the recommended dosage will not hurt your child. Good luck....
