So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for all the great ideas! Since this was my 1st time I decided to go with the recipe on the box. I know not very adventurous but I thought if I knew what that recipe tasted like and got a feel for how to make it, then I could change it up with my own ideas or some of yours. I can't believe that I was intimidated to make this, it was so easy now I feel silly :) I just thought it was going to be so much involved and it really wasn't. Thanks to everyone for the great recipes!

Hi Stephanie! I actually just made stuffed shells for the first time the other night and I think the filling would be just as yummy in lasagna...I used ricotta and parmesean cheese, garlic, and italian seasoning. Very easy and quick - which is good with kids! I make my own sauce too - 1 can of crushed tomatoes. 1 can of diced tomatoes, and 1 can of tomato sauce, all mixed with italian sausage, add whatever seasonings you like. I also make a mexican lasagna which is amazing! Let me know if you would like that recipe too!

I highly recommend www.foodnetwork.com. If you have not used it before, all the famous chefs/cooks recipes are there all of the recipes are all wonderful. Simply seach for "Lasagna" under the recipes tab. Tyler Florence is my personal favorite. Here is a link to his recipe (there are a lot of ingredients, but that is a good thing when it comes to lasagna). My guests and I have been thrilled with everything I have cooked using his recipes.

I found this recipe on allrecipes.com. I was so yummy that I make it everytime I want to do a pasta dish for company. Make it once and you will amend it so that you like it. I use more meat and less of the ricotta mixture. Here's the name if you want to search for it (and the recipe):
Alysia's Basic Meat Lasagna
INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 (28 ounce) jar sausage flavored spaghetti sauce
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon olive oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 small onion, diced
1 (8 ounce) package mozzarella cheese, shredded
8 ounces provolone cheese, shredded
1 (15 ounce) container ricotta cheese
2 eggs
1/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
9 lasagna noodles
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
In a skillet over medium heat season ground beef with garlic powder and oregano. Brown the meat and drain.
In a large sauce pan add spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce, and oregano; set aside. In a skillet heat olive oil. Saute garlic and onions for about 5 minutes. Mix sauteed onions and garlic with meat into the sauce and cook for 15 to 20 minutes.
Combine mozzarella and provolone cheeses in a medium bowl. In a medium bowl mix ricotta cheese, eggs, milk, and oregano.
Layer a 9x13 inch baking pan with just enough sauce to cover the bottom of the pan. Lay three lasagna noodles in the pan. Cover with sauce, then with ricotta mixture then sprinkle with mozzarella/provolone mixture; repeat layering. Finish with a layer of noodles and remaining sauce. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
Bake covered in a preheated oven at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake for 15 minutes.

My family's favorite recipe is on a website called tasteofhome.com. There are two parts to it, first is the sauce called the big-batch beef sauce which is used in other things such as spaghetti and tacos. The second part is the lasagna its self. They call it oven ready lasagna. I make this many times a year especially for my husbands birthday, its his favorite meal. I use this site for any recipes i need.

Hi Stephanie -- I have a super-quick but equally yummy lasagna recipe that I make at my Pampered Chef cooking shows and also all the time for my family. You don't even have to put in the oven. I love it, and get compliments all the time. If you have a large skillet, you're good to go. I'm copying the recipe below. You'll see the cooking tools I use to make it, but you don't have to have them to make the recipe. Enjoy!!

One Skillet Lasagna

1 - 2 lb. Cooked Ground beef
3 cloves of Garlic
24 oz Ricotta Cheese
1/4 cup water
1/2 tsp salt
2 Tb of Vegetable or Olive Oil
1 wedge fresh parmesan cheese
4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
2 (26 oz) jars meatless spaghetti sauce… flavored with garlic, onion, peppers
1 box NO COOK/NO BOIL lasagna noodles

Brown Ground beef in skillet.

While beef is heating, mix together: Ricotta cheese, garlic (use Garlic Press), 1/2 cup parmesan (use microplane), water and salt in batter bowl or stainless bowl.

Drain ground beef in colander bowl set. Place ground beef back in skillet, and add 1 jar of spaghetti sauce to ground beef. Stir well.

Place lasagna noodles on top of ground beef. Feel free to break a few noodles to get them to fit. Spread ricotta cheese mixture over top of the noodles.

Add another layer of noodles.

Add second jar of spaghetti sauce over top of noodles.

Top with 2-3 cups of mozzarella cheese. Place lid on skillet and cook on Medium heat for 20-25 minutes ON TOP of stovetop.

I think the one on the Barilla box rocks...the noodles don't have to be cooked ahead and it's pretty simple.

I use the one on the Mueller's box but double the cheese and use Newmans spaghetti sauce or Ragu Garden Chunky sauce.

Enjoy!

I have one!!! It's super easy.

Don't cook the noodles.

Mix a half pound of beef with a half pound of mild italian sausage.

Pour in some spag sauce and add (SO IMPORTANT) in a jar of water from the empty spag sauce. (This will help cook the noodles in the oven)

Mix parma cheese, fresh cut up parsley, and ricotta cheese together.

Layer with uncooked noodles, cover, and bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees.

Usually I generally use the one off the box as well, but i do a little extra to it. For example, i add some extra spices to the sauce and the ground meat. Usually i use ground beef and I slice open some mild italian sausage and brown all of the together. Also, when I add spices to the sauce, i usually add other vegetables like chopped onion, green peppers and sliced mushrooms. Also try mixing some spinach into the ricotta cheese before layering it in the pan. I usually do all of this and get rave reviews and requests for it. As a matter of fact, i may just make some this week!!! LOL...

Try this one-
1 lb of Ground turkey
1 small sweet onion- chopped
1 can of your fav pasta sauce
noodles- regular ones not the no cook ones
1 lg thing of cottage cheese
zichini, sliced thinly or chopped small
1 bag of shredded mozarella cheese
Brown the turkey and when it is done add about 1/2 the onions and cook them with the turkey until they are limpy. Add the sauce and let it warm for a few minutes.

While you are browning the turkey, cook the noodles about 75% of the way.

Layer in the pan, starting at the bottom- sauce, zuchini, cottage cheese and noodles and keep going until the pan is full or you run out. Then layer the top with the shredded cheese and bake on 350 for about 30 minutes.

This is my BFF's recipie and it is great and I love that the zuchini adds a little flavor and texture. Also for some quck and good garlic bread, get some hamburger or hot dog buns and open them up, lay them on a baking pan and in a bowl in the microwave melt a stick of butter and add some garlic salt to it and spread it over the bread. You can add cheese on top if you want to, and toss it in the oven durring the last 7-9 minutes of the lasagna cooking and pull it out when the cheese is melted and just starting to brown on the edges.
