Canon Digital Elph Powershot SD
Try this one, my firned is a photographer and reccomened it to me!
M.- SAHM and WAHm and love it!
Any advice on buying a new digital camera? I haven't taken a decent picture of my son (now 2 yo) since he started walking. I just get blurry pics of the back of his head, him running away or running toward me to try to grab the camera. I'm hoping to upgrade the shutter lag and cycle time (time between shots) from my three yo Nikon Coolpix L6. Also, 80% of my pics come out blurry. Maybe I just have no pic skills and don't really know how to use my camera. I need an idiot proof camera.
Thank for any advice,
K.

Hi K.,
A little known fact about digital cameras (no matter which one you buy) is that the lag time many times is caused by the memory card itself for the time in between shots. I'm a photographer and I didn't even know this till a few years ago. This URL might help

I know that Sony cameras supposedly have less of a lag time from the time you hit the button to the time it actually takes the picture. I have a Canon and it's definitely slower.
Good luck!
I have the Coolpix, if you change the setting to "Action", you should be able to cut down on the blurriness. as far as the time in between pictures, I haven't figured that out yet.. the action thing has a sports figure on it I think.. it's made to take pix during a sporting event where there's a lot of movement..good luck
K.,
I am a professional photographer and it's more about the photographer than the camera.
First, you have to stay still as you take the photo. If you are moving the shot will be blurry.
Second, if you are looking for a point and shoot versus an SLR (they have lenses that you can change) then you should know that the time lag has always been there, even when point and shoots were film not digital. You have to anticipate the moment or you will consistently be capturing the moment after the one you wanted.
Third, you should go to a dealer and ask questions. I don't know where you live but if you want to email me I will send you the names and address of a good dealer near you. Fourth, you are pretty safe with a name brand camera e.g. Canon, Nikon, Olympus. They have many different features you may or may not want e.g. video option, water and sand resistant.
Fifth, what feels right as you take the pictures. I have a Leica p&s but it was 600.00. I'm guessing you want something in the 200-300 range. There are good cameras for that price (or cheaper) but you should get knowledgeable advice and see what feels right in your hands. What has controls that feel easy to use etc. Best Buy etc. is not the place to ak questions.
Good Luck.
get a camera that has image stablization. I have a sony hanycam that also takes pics and i loooove it. i never get blurry pic. and most of the action shots come out. with a video camera you can also go back through and take pics out of videos that will help if you aren't so camra savy. my sister has a kodak camara that works really well also.
We had a Canon Elph for years and loved it. It was nice and small. Very easy to use. It took a while to get used to the lag time with the shutter but many digital cameras have that issue.
Now we have a Panasonic Lumix and love it as well. It feels like the shutter lag is better on this one, which is nice. The only thing it doesn't do well is low light photos and it may be that we need to learn some trick, we haven't learned yet, to do that better. Otherwise, it's great! I LOVE the 10x optical zoom. And it's very easy to use. It has a few more options than then Elph did, but the main thing we like is the zoom.
Have fun!
Hello!
We have a Canon Digital Elph. It is lightweight and completely idiot proof. It didn't break the bank and the photos are fantastic. I hope that helps!
:-)
get a canon they are awesome. go to the store and take pics w/ the display cameras test the different settings take pics in motion. I have taken pics with mine of my oldest playing soccer and they come out great.
Hi K. -
Not to brag - I take some good snapshots of my kids even though one is extremely camera shy! (hates flashes). I had great shots with a Kodak 3 megapixel (old) and an HP M425 Photosmart (also old) 5 MP. Then I 'upgraded' myself to a Coolpix like yours and I HATE it! All the shots are blurry, the focus is slow and inaccurate, and my photos are terrible. I've gone back to my two older camera out of frustration, and I've read that Nikon manual 2 times!! Don't know why people rave about them unless they just like Ashton Kutcher. Get a new brand, try some out at Best Buy, and you'll do much better. It's not you, it's the Nikon!!
Happy holidays!

I love my Canon elph powershot. They are reasonably priced and take fantastic pictures. Best part is they are super easy to use both for taking the pictures and uplaoding. Can't give high enough recommendation.
Hi K.,
I have had the same blurry issue w/ the coolpix! I now use a Olympus Stylus and LOVE IT!!! There are a bunch of different setting you can easly switch to on the back by the turn of a wheel...super easy to use and indistructable!!! The camera is water proof, freeze proof and crush proof aka: toddler proof...I don't have to try and wrestle away from my 13 month old because I know she can do it no harm.
The picture quality is fantastic...I love this camera (runs about $280).
Hi K.,
I have the cannon elph and when I put it on the kids and pets setting it works fantastic! I haven't had a blurry picture since buying the camera two years ago. I couldn't be happier with this camera, the battery life is long - the pictures turn out great and the pricetag is under $200.

Hi K.,
I am not a pro photographer but I have a Nikon coolpix camera, 7.1 mega p. It takes wonderfull pics but it is so light that in the process of pressing the pic button the camera shakes and the pic is blurry.
There is a small delay between when the button is pushed and the pic is taken and you have to learn to hold the camera steady for that fraction of a second.
When I finally learned to do this my pics are not blurry most of the time.
Maybe you already know this but I thought I would give some input.
Good luck.
