Need a Great Stylist/salon

I am looking for a great stylist/salon in the Highland Park/St. Paul area. I am hoping to find someone with experience, personality, skill, who can cut, style and do great color. I would like to be able to get other services as well (facial, pedicure), but that isn't as important as the hair! I am not crazy about Aveda salons (due to an allergy to their products)so that is a factor. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Heather Hagen at Studio Salon at Pascal & Grand in St. Paul is awesome. ###-###-####. She's also a lot of fun to chat with. She's a hip young mom with 2 little boys. Aveda products are used in the salon, but I think there are other brands as well.

I like Details Salon in Downtown St.Paul (St. Peter Street next to Pazzaluna). Very young, modern salon. They sell some Aveda products but they have other brands as well so I'm sure you can just ask them not to use Aveda stuff.

Try Spalagio. It's off of Snelling just a couple blocks, maybe on Randolph? My neighbor goes to Tara, the owner, and I've gone there as a backup for when my aunt, who cuts my hair, is out of town and I need to get in. Tara is great and the salon is in an old house that's converted to a salon and spa and it's really cute.

I asked this question, back in February, I got the most responses for Accolades salon on Randolph ave. I made an appt with Amber and really liked her fun outgoing, upbeat personality and the haircut was the best I ever had. They also use Aveda products. I actually have another appt next week for another hair cut, can't wait:) She really does a great job, and very thorough. It is hard to get in with her, even tho she's there a lot, she's always booked, so make the appt well in advance. I booked mine two weeks early, but if you could get in during the day, you may have better luck.

Hi! Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the salon, but it's located about 2 miles south of 94 on Snelling. If you know where The Scrapbook Shop is on Snelling, it's across the street from that. I know quite a few people who love the owner and many of the stylists that work there. They also do pedis & manis there.

I used to only go to Aveda salons because I thought you had to pay a lot to get a quality cut. But then I started having problems with turnover and bad haircuts, so I started to look elsewhere. A friend suggested going to Cyd and Friends which is on Randolph just east of Cretin. I was leary at first, but tried Cyd - OMG. He is phenomenal. He is funny, personable, inexpensive ($35 for a cut/style), but most importantly, he gives a great haircut. I found out that I have several friends that use him, and have for years. I also got my husband to convert, who used to only go to Fantastic Sams type places. Oh, the other thing - it's always easy to get an appointment - you don't have to book weeks in advance!

Krystal Luhrs at 526 Salon on Selby is excellent. My neighbor and I both go to her and couldn't be happier.

I worked at Ficocellos for five years. They give you advanced training after beauty school. And ongoing training while you work there. So all there stylists are highly trained and kept up to date on the latest styles and techniques. The are on Snelling and Randolph. There is the academy which is the students and then the main salon. And there stylists are different levels. Depending upon how long they have been there. But average haircut is the 30 dollar range. It is a really great place and fun environment. Plus the owner Ricki Ficocello does hair out of there. I would give them a try.

Theresa's Hair, on Energy Park Drive & Raymond. It's just off Como & 280, but she's great. Respectful of my wishes, fab with color & some other services in the salon. A sole proprietor, she is highly motivated to bring you back - I've been seeing her for over 10 year & won't go anywhere else.
