Can someone recommend a good vacuum cleaner for cat litter? Every vacuum I have tried blows it everywhere instead of picking it up. We also have a pet hair issue. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Hoover makes an upright especially for use with pets. I love it as it picks up everything. I bought mine at Wal-Mart and it was under $100.

I've used duct tape, too! We had a couch that turned itself into a magnet for cat hair! Duct tape, or very wide masking tape, worked better than the vacuum, and it didn't really take long to do once I had a system down.

Our cat litter boxes are in the laundry room where there isn't a carpet. My vacuum picks it up best when I use that little narrow crack tool. It seems to slurp the litter right up.

I've had a Dyson animal (the purple one) for 6-7 years now? Haven't had the cat litter issue, but I've had 2 big, long-haired dogs, 2 teens and all their friends and a husband in and out. I would buy another one in a heartbeat!

This is one of the many reasons I have tile and wood floors - no need to vaccuum. I just use a broom. When I had carpet, I tried several different vacuums and didn't find any that lived up to their claims regarding picking up hair.

I know that you are looking for a vacuum, but in the meantime i have a quick fix. I think it is made by pledge.... it is the roller thing with the plastic top. It really works. I use it on the couches, chairs and beds. It fills up fast and picks up a ton of hairs :)

I have actually resorted to duck tape for the couches...lol! This works much better. I have relatives with allergies and i need to make sure that i get most of the hair.

We got a Bissell Lift-off Cyclonic Pet vaccuum cleaner and we LOVE it. It was around $150 which I feel was well worth the money. We have a cat and a labrador retreiver, so we have a significant pet hair issue at our house. Hope this helps!

We have a Kirby (the Ultimate G model) which we bought refurbished from a reputable dealer on eBay. I think we paid about $140+shipping for it, which was a steal. Kirby's are expensive, which is why we bought used, and this thing is a real workhorse. We had a Kirby when I was a kid and after too many years of bad vacuums, I'm so happy to have one again!

We have a dyson animal that is 7 years old and it does a great job with three cats and a dog.
