Are any of you ladies happy with your hair color, do you have a salon or person you would recommend? I am a brunette, when I have my turning gray hair colored I end up with a lot of red highlights. I really naturally don't have this red thing going on.
Can't I get a more natural brown color.
You have to call Arlene at Being Salon...she is the owner, is a brunette with beautiful color; this woman knows how to color hair! The number is ###-###-####. The salon is at Van Dyke and 23-24 mile roads. I've gone to her for years as does my mom; she has never let us down!

I have been going to Rachel for about 3 years and she always does a great job on my coloring and cuts.

Hi D.,
This may be a little far for you but totally worth the trip. I go to Chuck at the Macy's salon in Oakland Mall. He does the most amazing color, I always have people asking me where I get my hair colored. He is such a nice person and very easy to talk to-no awkward silences with him! I have been going to him for years and would never go anywhere else!
Good luck!

I don't know where you live... but, I LOVE Fringe (the Aveda Salon) in Royal Oak on Washington and Fifth. I go to Tarah. Aveda is nice b/c it is all natural. Tarah is sweet and takes the time to listen to what you want. http://www.fringeroyaloak.com/ Plus, they have a promo right now... $20 off your first color. And, did I mention... they are tip free. So, it may seem a little more costly, but not when you add in the tip you would need to leave at other salons!!
Good luck!

I don't know where you live, but my neice works at Salon Bellisimo in Riverview on Pennsylvania. Sarah is an excellent colorist. I have the same problem as you-I'm a graying brunette. If you try to lighten your hair yourself, the gray will turn red or orange. I have to buy 'ash' toned colors, not 'golden', which turns our hair red. When Sarah does my hair, it actually lasts way longer than the boxed stuff I use and looks 100 percent better, so the extra money it costs at the salon is well worth it. Good luck, and thanks for the reminder that I need an appointment! Dawn.

15 & Haggerty in West Bloomfield, salon Matisse. Katie or Stephanie, both are excellent. It sounds like you need to use a cool color brown. The red comes from warm tones. Try with a non -permanent dye, like Natural Instincts, to see which one works best, and don't go lighter unless you want your grays to look like highlights.
I would like additional information about you being a Home Organizer, could you email me? Thanks

Hi D.,
I have a great salon but they are a little far away from you. I go to Ashka Salon in Canton (they have a location in Brighton too). I see Katie at the Canton location. But if you can find an Aveda Salon somewhere in your neighborhood and talk to the colorist about what you do/don't want I am sure you will be happy. I have colored my hair many times and they pull out swatches and the final product always matches (in the summer I leave out the red and in the winter I put it back in so I know it can be done)!

Hi D.!
I'm a brunette also and had my hair colored once a long time ago when I felt that the gray was beginning to win. I hated the result and couldn't wait for it to fade out. Since then, I only get highlights AND lowlights. There is still a little gray visible, but the subtle variations in color enhanced by the lowlights looks natural and beautiful. I ALWAYS get compliments on my hair color. My go-to guy is in Troy, which wouldn't be too bad of a schlep from Lake Orion if you're interested. Salon Jarnac, ###-###-####, ask for Charles. He's been in the biz forever and I love him. He's worth the trip.
Good luck! L.

I am also a stylist in the flint area. The incredible You On Saginaw and Dodge. Actually in Mt morris. I agree you need to have ash tones put in your hair to cut thru the red. It sounds like you are getting what is called "hot Root". You need to let your stylist know that you are prone to this so they can take action.
Good luck. Phnoe number to the salon is ###-###-####.

D., I am a cosmetologist and can not really give advise with out seeing your hair, you might want to suggest next time you have it colored that you have had this problem in the past and have them use a more neutral or ash base brown. It won't be as warm but the red undertone won't show up. Now pleasw keep in mind too that grey hair is harder to color because of the harshness and stubbornness of it but it is usually possiable to achieve the color you desire. Sometimes medication and hormone changes can also affect the outcome. Please email me with any questions. Good luck! L.
