I am a type I diabetic on an insulin pump (for almost 20 yrs)-- after having a baby 15 mos ago, my blood sugars are constantly erratic. i ususally don't see a specialist becuase I can work through most issues on my own, but now I think I'm having some hormone-related issues that are beyond my grip. Can anyone recommend a fantastic endocrine specialist that is particularly insightful? Feel free to expound on anyone.

What can I do next?

Hey A.,

I love Dr Gutman. He's an Endocrinologist and an Internal Medicine doctor. He is actually going to only see diabetic patients starting some time next month. Sniff. Not that I want diabetes in order to continuing see him but I hate loosing a good doctor.

Here's his contact info:

Gutman Joseph MD
6301 S McClintock Dr Ste 201
Tempe, AZ 85283
Phone: ###-###-####

I have Addison's disease (non working adrenal glands) so I can vouch for the fact he's used to working with endocrine issues.

Hope this helps.

I have to second the opinion on Dr. Gutman. I have known him both as a patient and as a colleague and he is a great guy and soooo intelligent. (and handsome!! ;-))

Good luck and take care of yourself.

After I had my son I had some strange hormonal issues and I saw many doctors, one was an endocranologist. I found that there were few in the valley - and he was really attentive and thorough, I believe he was Sri Lankan so a little bit hard to understand, and quite old - but he really seemed concerned with my condition and didn't want to put me on any medication unless he knew for sure it was necessary. Also, his appointments were double and triple booked so the wait was LONG and the office didn't take debit (which I thought was odd).

I don't know if I just convinced you TO or NOT TO go there... LOL. He was a very good doctor...
