Wash it again using whatever soap it is that you use and add some white vinegar to it...that will take the smell right out.
My daughter got sick over the weekend and vomited all over her favorite blanket. When I threw it in the washer I failed to realize that the towel I used to dry the dog with after his bath was in the washer too. So her favorite blanket was washed with the dog's towel. Now her blanket smells like wet dog. I have washed the blanket twice in hot water and dried it, but it still smells. Do any of you know of a way to get this bad smell out? She insist on having her blanket, but I can't stand the smell of it (I have a very strong sense of smell and this is driving me bonkers).

My husband has very smelly workout clothes. The only thing that has worked for me (and believe me, I have tried it all. Vinegar, baking soda, Frebreze, etc.) is ammonia. I put about a 1/2 cup is a full load and it gets the smell out.
I have a product that will get odors out of clothes, fabrics, carpet, etc. It is made from teetree oil.

Try adding vinegar (1/4- 1/2 C) and baking soda (2-3 TBSP) to the wash. Try a soak cycle with hot water in your washing machine and let it sit for a few hours (using detergent, vinegar, and baking soda). Then, drain it and start a normal wash using detergent, vinegar, and baking soda again.
I can't say if this will work for the wet dog smell, but it works fabulously when I wash cloth diapers that have a strong urine smell.
If, after washing with vinegar, baking soda or the other suggestions given, you still have the odor, I suggest Odo ban. You can get it at Sam's club. It comes in a gallon jug and will last 'forever'. I've had some towels to 'sour' in the dryer because of bad ventilation and odoban added in the fabric softener dispenser has saved my nose (I'm very 'scent sensitive' as well) and my sanity. This stuff can be used to deodorize your whole house and has many very amazing other abilities as well. Good luck - not much else in the world smells as bad as wet dog....
Liquid Fabric softener combined with a dryer sheet should work. Also, vinegar or baking soda in the washing machine will help remove the odor. Only other suggestion would be Febreeze, but the baking soda in the washing machine should do the trick. Good luck!
You could try vinagar or baking soda (not together!!) and see if that helps but the smell might be set it now that you've put it in the dryer. That has a tendancy to set smells and stains in.
Good luck!

baking soda...add about a 1/4 cup to the wash. It is the only thing I know of that will get the smell of smoke (from a fire in a home) out of clothes. Or if you have some of that "oxygenating" powder that crazy man talks about on tv- that might work too- they sell it at dollar general. But the baking soda should work. Baking soda is amazing. look it up on google "uses for baking soda" it lists everything from stomach pain to odor remover.
Try vinegar- that has gotten out mildewy smells on clothing/towels for me before. It might work for the dog smell!
Try adding in baking soda in the washer along with detergent. I would let it soak for a bit and then run the cycle like normal. I would say maybe a 1/4 cup or so. I have used it before when I have wahed a load of laundr and left it in the washer and had forgot about it on a hot day and it took on that lovely mildew smell, it worked...Good Luck!!
Good Morning A. J.
I sell a product that will eliminate our problem...NOK-OUT. I have read some of the responses already sent to you and they are all great for some household odors. However, NOK-OUT will do the job in minutes and without spending time with products that just mostly "cover up" the odor...not really "remove" it completely.
I left some meat in my car during a recent trip (6 days, 95+ temps). I can't even begin to describe the awful odor when we returned home :(. Long story short...NOK-OUT was recommended to me after having my car detailed twice with no results. I ordered some and used it as recommended...2 treatments completely eliminated the odor and restored my new car smell. I was so impressed that I have recently added the product to my inventory....hope to have it on my web site soon with my Home Healthcare product line.
My business is featured on Mamasource and you might have seen my "perk advertisement"...Things of Joy, Inc.
I promise that you will love what this product can do for you all around your home and in your car...especially great with pet odors...can even wash your pet safely in NOK-OUT.
Let me know if you are interested and I will send you pricing, etc.
Blessings, G. Lord,

Try washing it with adding Febreeze to the wash. We did this with my mom's clothes that were in Hurricane katrina and now they smell great.
We just poured some of liquid straight from the bottle. Hope this helps!

I found that most detergents try to cover things with fragrance and don't really take the cause of the odor out. I have been using the Shaklee Get Clean line and it does great with all the dirt and stink (from God only knows what) out of our laundry of our huge family (11 of us at home) and the laudry smells fresh (not like the brand of detergent I used to buy).
Sincerely,
K. B

Hey A.
Have you tried using fabric softner in the rinse cycle. I use downey and it does a wonderful job, I had a problem with the smell of my towels when I dried them and this sloved my problem. Just a thought..
soak the blanket in tide with febreze for 1 hour. prewash, then wash. run an additional rinse cycle with a cup of white vinegar. wash one additional time in the tide. no more stink!!
A. try using a little bit of vinegar. Hope this works!

Hi A.,
Wash it again and this time add 2 caps full of Gain fabric softener to the rinse cycle! I have a 10 year old boy and we all know what their clothes can smell like after a day of play! Gain ALWAYS leaves our clothes smelling great for days! I use the original scent. I hope this helps!
try baking soda... You can us it with or without vinegar and it should help. I add it into my laundry to cut the urine smell when little one leaks out of his diaper. Apx a 1/2 cup to the soap unless I have a full load. It really helps! Good luck! Jess
febreze makes a product that you add to laundry to eliminate odors...i usually can't find it at publix, but can find it at kroger. good luck
I use Borax with my laundry soap and it seems to work pretty good with deodorizing. Borax is pretty cheap too. Hope this helps and good luck.
When all else fails....vinegar. My grandmother always always spoke about using vinegar for everything! If you can stand the smell of vinegar I would try putting that in the wash and then perhaps washing it again with your regular laundrey detergent to get the vinegar smell out if it turns out too strong for the nose. Hope it helps!
Try Odo-ban.... I found it at Home Depot for about $10.00 a gallon (in the Cleaning Supplies Section) My oldest son went to summer camp and left his wet clothes in a tote for a week. The clothes smelled DISGUSTING!!! I thought they were ruined. But Odo-ban got the smell out. I washed his clothes and added a cup to the rinse cycle. Problem solved. Try it : )
Spray it with vinegar and let it dry. It will smell like vinegar for a few hours, maybe a day, but then will not smell anymore. Something in the vinegar nuetralizes any smell. Works well on any soft surface.
A.,
Bleach (color safe if needed) about 2 cap fulls. LOTS of liquid fabric softner.
If all else fails... get a new one.
I have a pretty strong sense of smell too, so I understand :)
Good luck!
