Its simple, and appropriate for a 2 year old,
plus it meets a need.

I recently bought a house. One of the bedrooms came with built in formica furniture which my husband wanted to keep. I said yes on one stipulation: that one peice of the furniture did not go back in the room after spackling and painting. The furniture spans two whole walls of the room and at one part has a tall skinny peice that goes all the way to the ceiling. This peice is very ugly and it overwhlems the room. My husband did not put it back but now I have holes on the top surface of the dresser where it used to sit, one is very large, about 2.5 inches in diameter. I need to find something creative to place on top of this part of the furniture. Something permanent but like it might belong there or even be useful even. This is my son's bedroom and he is 2 if that helps anybody. Thanks.

Hi M.,
I'm an interior designer and wanted to offer you a suggestion that might help you solve your problem.
I don't know what color the formica is but you could cover it with paper or a pretty fabric in the same color or even a different color and/or pattern. Then measure the surface and order a piece of 1/8" glass with a a polished edge to place over it. It should not be very expensive and it would be easy to clean.
I hope this helps and feel free to contact me anytime. If you have an interest in my work, please visit my website: www.petrasinteriors.com
Measure the big whole exactly and then look for a cup (peferably plastic)that will fit in it. It would make a great holder for pencils, pens, etc. I know he is only 2 but he will find something to put in it and he won't be able to get his little hand stuck in the hole. As for the other holes how about corks. You could force them in tight and then cut them flat with the surface. That way again no fingers stuck! A.
Maybe I am stating the obvious... you said you spackled and painted? Why wasn't the hole fixed then? DYI network can walk you through the correct way of fixing the hole. Then you won't need a creative solution to mask your problem.
cant you just spackle and paint over them? if not, buy some of those wall decals and put them over the holes until you can find the perfect shelving unit or something. you can never have enough shelves in a kids room.
