Hello All, New booster seat law in effect. I threw away old booster seat because it was not needed, Guess what law changed. My son is 7yrs old yet he weighs 102 lbs. Under the new law he must be Over 8 yrs old or Over 4' foot 8inches, He is 4 foot 2 inches. Now What? Anyone know where I can get a booster for a big boy, Or do I hope for a growth spurt? Thanks M.

So What Happened?

Thnaks for your help, Since Dylan is 102lbs and I cannot afford an expensive seat to fit him I have decided to purchase a regular booster with a weight limit up to 100lbs. They are not issuing citations until June 1st, 2010 and he will be 8 Aug. 1st 2010 so I might squeak by with a cheap, decent seat. Thank All, M.

Here is my thought on it (my daughter is also 7 and is 60 lbs and is 4ft 5 in). She has been out of a booster for 3 years. If the standard was for everyone under that size, I would say sure, we will get the seat, but there are kids who are smaller than my daughter (and your son) who do not have to be in a seat. So what is so magic about turing 8? Nothing. So, if any one asks, she is 8. Fortunately kids don't have to carry an ID card ;)

I think that any booster seat will work fine for your son. The purpose of the booster is to ensure that the seat belt in the car fits the child correctly. That is. . .across chest rather than across the neck.

My neighbor has the same problem, she has a 7 yr old that is 120 lbs. I wrote a comment on NBC13.com that the Texas lawmakers need to consider the "larger" children & ask what is a parent to do when their child's behind it too big to sit in a booster seat. I think for that age (7) they should put a weight restriction on it too, not just a height. Is a parent to be fined because their child will not fit in a booster seat? That was my question.
But to help you solve your problem, all I can suggest is take your son to Toys R Us, Walmart & Target & let him seat in the booster seats to "try them on" so to speak & see if you can find one that will work for him. I would say just the cheap 15-20 dollar seat without the back would be more comfortable for him. I had read they are only giving warning tickets until the first of the yeat, so maybe that will buy you some time too.
I did the same thing you did, I had just gotten my children out of the booster seat 6 months ago & here we go again!! Because mine will be 6 this year & will need one two more years I bought the turbo booster at Walmart, the back adjust up & down for their height & it is also removable. If you have another child that will be going into a booster seat after your son, I would recommend it. If not just get the one without the back if he can sit comfortably in one.

Good luck in your search!

Looking through the booster seats I could only find ones that go to 100 lbs. For your child safety I would do some research, it seems that one of the seat only (without the back) would be best.
You might try calling 1-866-SEAT-CHECK. Perhaps they would know of the best one for him.
Let us know what you find out. Obviously you aren't the only one looking for the right seat.
Blessings
