i was wondering if anyone has ever heard of someone whos neck pops when they nod their head? i have a 3 year old boy, and when he nods his head, his neck makes a loud pop sound. i keep forgeting to ask the doctor about it during his check ups, and i dont think it is serious enough to schedule an appointment. he says it doesnt hurt but it is something that may or may not be a problem. it doesnt happen every single time he nods his head. it seems as it is something he makes happen, like when you gulp when drinking. its hard to tell if i should be concern since i have notice the sound happens sometimes without him meaning to do it. any advice?

What can I do next?

I don't know about your healthcare provider, but mine has a "live nurse chat" option on their site. Maybe yours does too.

It seems like every part of my husbands body pops! His neck, fingers, toes, elbows, knees-every five minutes! I don't know how he can sand it, he sayd he just has to do it! When I ask him not to, just me mentioning it-makes him NEED to do it again! I don't know the answer, but if you find out, let me know!

I do that all the time on purpose for a long time and I am fine. I would still try and remember to bring it up or better yet I have a childrens nurse line you can call at any time and they will tell you if you need to go see the doctor.

Hi! I don't know if this is a route you would go but I see a chiropractor for my back and neck when it gets out of line. He does wonders for my husband and me, so I took my then newborn son (now 3 1/2) for popping in his back. It worked wonders! He had a vertabrae out of line which caused the popping. I will say you have to have a doc that you trust completely. I live in Ingleside and see Dr. Burhans in Corpus Christi, he also has an office Portland. Not sure where you are.

Hello! I am a licensed massage therapist, so I hope you find this information useful. Sometimes, the tendons and ligaments make popping noises when moving over bones. It sounds similar to joints being popped. Does your son sleep on his stomach? Has he had any falls or injuries (he's 3, so I am guessing that's a definite possibility!)? You might google some neck stretches and encourage him to sleep on his back (preferable) or side. Stomach sleeping causes the neck muscles to be in constant flexion, thus creating tension. You might also gently massage his neck and upper back.

Hope this helps!

i ahve a three year old boy that his bones pop not his neck though but sometimes you hold his hand to cross the street and his wrist will pop. he sometimes is jumping on the bed and he lets himself fall down on the bed and his back pops. you cant pull his arms even a little bit because his wrist or shoulder pops. i have never asked the doctor i guess since he says it doesnt hurt i really havent thought anything bad about it. a matter of fact about two days ago my mother in law asked me ifi have ever asked the doctor about his bones popping. so next time i take him to the doctor i will ask. but now i feel better that im not alone. it probably isnt anything to worry about because if it was they would be in a lot of pain and discomfort.
