I really love making our own...at first I thought it was totally weird but we all love it...I use coconut milk, Castille soap, a few drops of essential oils...but there are loads of homemade recipes on the Internet for natural shampoos.
My son who is 8 years old and developed a sensitivity to certain soaps or certain ingredients in certain soaps. We did an allergy test but have not been able to pin point what he is actually allergic to. I was hoping other parents have come across this situation and the products you found that work best. We are actually hoping to find something that the whole family can use. Preferably soap that is also gentle on the face area since he has developed a mild case of acne (this poor kid can not catch a break, between this and his asthma...induced by allergies he spends half the year miserable). Any help you can provide would be great.
Thank you.

I don't use shampoo anymore. I only use conditioner. I put some in my hand and rub it on my scalp and into my hair. I rinse and do that again. My hair is light and curly and everyone compliments me on how nice it looks.
I would think he might be allergic to Laurel Sulfate. See if you can find some soaps without that.
I can't use soaps with artificial fragrances or sulfates. I break out. That includes body soap, shampoos, laundry detergents, fabric softeners, lotions...anything that goes on my skin.
I use Kiss My Face olive oil bar soap. It cleans well, is super gentle, and has only natural fragrances. I use it on my skin AND my hair, at it works great.
For laundry detergent, I make my own with Borax, Super Washing Soda, and Zote laundry flakes. For fabric softener, I use the "free" type with no fragrances or sulfates. For lotion, which I only need in the winter, I use Queen Helene cocoa butter lotion. It's cheap and it doesn't break me out.
Good luck!
My son has allergies, too. I buy Basis brand soap. I generally order it from Amazon on recurring order since my husband likes to use it now, too. I think might actually be able to buy it at Walmart.
As for shampoos, you might want to try California Baby shampoos. They work pretty well and are hypoallergenic.
Perhaps you can try Castille Soap. It's great for hair, skin, cleaning and clothes. It comes in different scents and is very mild.
