Hello All--

I recently moved to an area with really hard water. Putting in a softener is not an option right now. While dandruff shampoo is helping a little bit, I'd like to use something more natural, maybe even food-based. My scalp is really itchy, and this is so embarassing!!! Anyone have any home-remedies that worked?

Thanks!!!

D. P

Denise,
I am a consultant for Arbonne and they have a couple of different shampoos. There is a self adjusting tea tree oil shampoo. Arbonne's products are all natural-no perfumes, dyes, by-products. The bottle lasts right around 3 to 4 months-you only need to use a couple of pumps. I do offer a discount to first time mamasource members so feel free to contact me if you are interested. Go to a store like the Vitamin Shoppe or maybe Trader Joe's and get a natural shampoo with tea tree oil in it. Works wonders on healing the scalp. Tea Tree Ointments are great for little scratches and scraps or as a treatment for athletes foot. Soap with tea tree oil and green clay is great for someone who struggles with on again off again acne. Tea tree is just a great natural product but is very strong if you try to use it full strength.

A cheaper remedy is to mix 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar with 1/4 cup water.

Pour this mixture into a spray bottle and spritz it on to your hair and scalp, being careful to avoid the eye and ear area. Wrap your head in a towel.

After 15 minutes to an hour, remove the towel and wash your hair. This is generally done once to twice a week.

Hope this helps.

Denise- If you buy any natural products/supplements vitacost.com is an excellent webstore with deep discounts. Tea tree oil/melaleuca oil are great for scalp issues. You can also in the evening put organic extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil on to help with flakiness. Just make sure that if you do that you put a towel underneath your head. You can also get the oil straight and add it...just amke sure that you shampoo has NO animal by-products or crude oil derivatives. If you need help with ingredient reading-let me know!!

Giovanni makes an excellent tea tree shampoo, or Arbonne (I have a friend who is a rep and a great lady plus their skin care is great!!)

I hope this helps!!

I use Tea Tree Shampoo from Paul Mitchell for dry and itchy scalp. The Tea Tree is GREAT for this! While what I use is not natural you can get Tea Tree oils at many stores and just follow the directions of use for it.

Be careful using dandruff shampoos if you only have dry scalp. There is actually a difference! You can cause your dry scalp to get worse in the long run if you are using dandruff shampoos when not needed.

Good luck to you!
