Does anyone have any experience with using natural progesterone cream to help with PMS symptoms as well as low libido issues? Since my daughter was born, my body just never seemed to return to its normal self.

Hi D. -

Progesterone is only half the hormone issue. Try something like Chaste Tree Berry (Vitex) to balance your hormones. You can get it in capsule or tincture formula. For low libido issues, damiana seems to work quite well - it is a natural aphrodesiac. Check a local herb store - they should be able to help you.

I would get your hormone levels checked first to determine what is going on with your hormones. My husband and a lot of friends have had success with this company that does bioidentical hormones:

They send a saliva test kit to you. You return the kit with your saliva. Then they can tell you exactly where your hormone levels are at and make a special brew for you. A lot of insurance companies cover it too. Even without that, it's still not that expensive. I think the test was $150 and now it's $40-45 monthly without insurance.

My husband did it and discovered that he is only low on DHEA, so now he can just take DHEA cheaper from the store instead of getting the DHEA cream from them.

I see a naturopathic doctor in South Chandler at Life Sculpting who has really helped me balance my hormones, using progesterone cream, in my case with DHEA. I take my prescription to a compounding pharmacy that takes my insurance.

Do get your hormone levels checked, but be aware that they change with each second of the day, so they are not that accurate. Speak with your Physician to determine the best route for you! The lack of libido may be tied into the hormones, but, may still be an after effect of post partum depression. Yes, we all go through it in varying degrees, even though we don't want to admit it. It's natural cuz your hormones ARE screwed up. Sometimes a low dose antidepressant for a couple of months is all it takes to lift the haze. Easy to get off of, too. and no ill side effects. Something to talk to your Doc about. Good luck

I don't know about using a progesterone cream for PMS or low libido. I have a friend who uses the Arbonne one successfully with PCOS (poly-systic fibrosis- I think?) to help her get pregnant.

There are a LOT of changes to our bodies, especially with pregnancy and childbirth, but also with diet, exercise, sleep patterns, medication and stress. I do know of a GREAT cream to help with libido, but don't want to tout my own business without request. If you want to know more I'd love for you to contact me privately and I can give you more information on that.

Good luck!

I've used progesterone cream for menstrual issues, but not low libido. It worked very well. But first of all, get it from a naturopath. The kind in the health food store is worthless. They hardly have any active ingredients in them. The naturopaths can get a stronger one. And also if you get it, play with the dose. I did the rec. dose (1 tsp), and felt really wierd. Now I just use a teeny little dab and it works great. And the other post person recommended chaste tree.... that is good too, but it has natural progesterone in it too, so it's basically the same thing, only a lot less strong. I went to a really good naturopath in Mesa if you want her info...

Hi D.,

www.askdrhelen.com has just what you are looking for. Progesterone and I don't get along, so I wasn't able to use it. Made me feel "crazy". Anyway, they have a good return policy and my girlfriend swears by it.

My mother n law swears by a natural progesterone cream called Prolief made by Arbonne.com which I am a member. She says it helps her with night sweats, and helps to balance her hormones. I've used it once but didn't stay on it long enough to see a pattern of change.
