Yesterday while watering the yard, there was a baby fledgling on the grass fumbling around.
I told the kids.
We looked for the nest to put it back... but couldn't find it.
So, we now have it as a pet.
It is a "Japanese White Eye." Also called a "Mejiro," It is common here in Hawaii.

We still have to name it. We all can't decide.
I like the name "Olive." My kids like "Tweety."
Any ideas parents????
Meanwhile, we got the things needed to hand feed it. My daughter did the researching of it, online.
We went to the Pet Store etc. and our Aunty bought the kids a cage for it.
We made a nest for it, with a little birdie basket.
It is doing well.... seems to have gotten used to us and chirps when hungry.
So I have been busy feeding it... it needs to feed frequently.
My 5 year old son and 9 year old daughter, feed it as well. They are gentle and good at it. And careful.
Good learning experience for them.
And we now have a menagerie of pets. ;)
Fun stuff. Beautiful bird. Great website you found with a lot of great info! Perhaps find the food it likes best (which berry?) and name it "Blackberry" or simply "Blue." I like Olive personally.
How about put some other languages in there. Call it "Ava" or "Ave" (ah-vay).
Maybe "Lulu" since it's from Hawaii? (Honolulu)

It's interesting reading about this bird - they actually make it tough on other birds because they eat so much that it puts the others at risk.
