Mystic Tan???? - Round Rock,TX

I am wondering if anyone has tried Mystic tan or any other type of professional spray on tan. I am wanting to get a little color on my pasty white skin, but I don't want to go to a tanning bed. I absolutely hate the way self-tanners smell. So, I am wondering if the professional spray on tans, such as Mystic, leave you stinky. Does anybody have any opinions or advice? Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

I did a spray tan for my wedding and it was awesome. I went into a booth and it sprayed me(I dont think I could do the one where I'm standing naked in front of another human lol) It dries really fast and doesnt smell(that I remember). The down side is that it only last about a week and is about $30 per treatment. So it can get costly. My advice would be to get the sray tan and then try to lay out in the sun some since you dont like the beds or else you'll be spending $120 a month on looking un pasted!:)

Merle Norman has a self tanner that's smell is better than most, although it definitely has a scent, it's not a bad one. Also, Fake Bake self tanning lotion looks the best. Everyone I know who uses it says they agree it gives the best color-not orangy. When you first put it on though, it's a dark dark brown-green color, and it scared me the first time, and i thought i got a bad bottle and i jumped in the shower and washed it off LOL! but i learned that's just it's beginning color while you are rubbing it in and then you don't see it until it develops and you have a beatiful color.

I have tried it and liked it for the most part. I bought a package so it's cheaper per tan, and I had immediate results, which I love. My husband notices the smell, but I don't other than when I'm in the booth, so it doesn't bother me. The only thing is that to maintain it, you'd probably have to go every week, which I don't have time to do. But it's good for instant color.

Sorry if this is long. I always felt it was kinda my girly time each week to pamper myself and do something fun. So I say just go and have fun with it. It was the best skin care regimen I've ever been on!!! Because, of the steps you go through to make sure it looks good my skin was never softer. I know, it's funny to say that. But because the best way to make sure the spray goes on evenly is to exfoliate your whole body really well each time before you go. And make sure you use a wash cloth to do it and not any type of scrubby. The wash cloth will exfoliate more evenly. Then after you shower apply one of the lotions that have a self tanner in it. Any will work. This will not make you darker but will extend the life of the tan by a couple days.

When you get to the store make sure someone tells you exactly how to hold your hands and when to move. It's important to do this or it will not go on evenly. Also make sure you not only apply the lotion provided to your hands and cuticles you smother them in it. I would always make sure that each finger and toe had white blobs on the end. Even under my nails. Don't worry if you smear it on the door of the machine or buttons. Your cuticles will gather the spray in them and turn really dark if you're not careful. One thing I did was I started taking a nail brush with me. After I was done I would go into the bathroom and, being careful not to get it on my arms and back of hands, I would wash and scrub the tips of my fingers. I have very dry cuticles and this is what did the trick to keep them clean. On my feet I NEVER would use the little paper foot covers. They WILL leave a line that is very distinct so unless your never planning on going barefoot or wearing sandals just avoid these. Use the lotion provided liberally and make sure you put it on your heals and back of your ankles. Just put it a little lighter on the areas where a little tan will work.

Another suggestion I have is to plug your nose. It's not going to hurt you to breath the spray in but it's just icky to do it. What I would do is I would have a little baggy of Q-tips with me that I had cut in half. One cotton end on each. I would fluff them up and stick them in my nose. I could still breath past the cotton and it would trap most of the mist. The store might recommend just stuffing cotton balls up there but this I found was easier to put in and out.

Also, wear your eye gear!!!

When you step out of the sprayer, depending on the location and unit, you may have drips going down your legs. I don't care what order you go in to towel off after but make sure you go after the drips first!!!! These will streak otherwise. If you follow all the other instructions the location provides it will be easy. However, the first time you go it might not turn out exactly the way you want and it all may seem overwhelming. But don't give up!! The next time you go it will be easier and after a couple times you will feel like and old pro at it!

And yes, It will smell a little until you shower but some places will offer to put a few drops of vanilla in the bottle before you get sprayed. I tried this but didn't care for it myself. You will need to wait at least 6 hours before you shower. I don't recommend waiting too much longer than this because, for me, it seemed like the longer I waited the darker it continued to get. This might be ok for your body but your face will be getting darker too and that only looks stranger as you go. I also don't recommend wearing any clothing that is light in color when you go. It will rub off a little on your clothes. But don't worry about your bras and panties. It washes off in the laundry with no troubles or pretreating.

Oh, and my last thought is, I'm a tennis player so I sweat a lot on the court. I've never had any troubles with this and having a mystic tan. Just avoid sweating after you get it done. And remember that this tan is not real and will not protect you from the sun. You still need to wear your sunscreen!!!! And you might as well get the good high level stuff. Your already tan with the spray, no need to try to add more with the sun!

Good luck and have fun!!!

I'm not sure what a former associate of mine used but it was one that she bought in the store, Neutragena maybe?? I thought her tan was natural til she told me it was spray on. The only thing I didn't like is that it rubbed off on my clothes when I got next to her, even though it was dry, but didn't seem to be on HER clothes though, very strange. Just thought I'd mention that. I wanted to get some for myself since it really looked natural but didn't want to pay that much for it so I passed but might do it for special occasions.

I did it one time for my wedding. I liked the way it looked, the only down side is that it got all over the inside of the clothes I was wearing because I worked a sales job and was running around all day after I did it. I recommend doing it on a day that you will not have to sweat at all so it won't rub off and have time to set in your skin well. The only thing you can't do when you get it is go into a chlorinated pool, I forget why but that is what they told me. Good luck!

My daughter and I are both redheads. She has used the spray tan numerous/regular times. She has says that it does have an odor right at first, and she does not shower the first 24 hours (and don't use a white towel). She also does wear loose clothing and does stay away from white the first 24hours, too. It does give her a healthy glow and looks great with her red hair. She also has used the Jergens product. All the other responses are good acurate descriptions and results. Good luck and I hope you like your results:).

I love to use mystic tan. The only advice I have to you is make sure that you take care of your skin or it will not last and leave you with spots. I have not notice a smell whenever I have done it.

Best of luck

Yes, I have done the Mystic tan and it does have an odor. Doesn't last very long either...wouldn't suggest it!

I would suggest using a self tanner from a store, but mix it with a lotion when applying. Mix a half portion of Bath and Body lotion or any other scented lotion, with a half portion of the self tanner. You get a more healthy, natural looking glow without quite the smell! Apply daily or every other day.....

And I say - embrace your pastiness! (I am pasty too!) Good luck...

Mystic is great! It does leave you smelling a little funny until you shower (you won't want to shower for probably 6 hrs or more after you do it). After showering, it's fine. If you do try it, make sure you put TONS of lotion on your feet and hands. It tends to get dark and funny looking between fingers, on the back of your ankles, etc. Other than that, it's great. Also, exfoliate your entire body the day before you go for the best look (but don't apply lotion or oil before you go). I also love the new Jergen's product. That's what I use these days. It's a gradual "fake tan." The smell is not bad at all!

I have done the mystic tan and I really liked the results. The only complicated thing is the actual process b/c the mist really stinks and kind of hurts if you breath it in so it's best to hold your breath but it gets difficult if you can't hold your breath for too long. Be sure to get a nose filter, they should offer them there. Also you have to put on a special lotion that they provide so that it doesn't come out too dark around your fingernails and this can be nerve racking b/c you want to be sure to put the lotion in the right places and not get it on any other part of your body, so you have to be careful or you'll have spots from where you put the lotion. All that aside if you do everything right the result is great. I too have really light skin and I will usually go to the mystic tan for special occasions during the summer. It lasts for about a week. Good luck.

Im a little late responding, but I LOVE Mystic tans!!! For the best results, prepare your skin by exfoliating your arms, elbows, legs, knees, feet, and face. When you go in to tan, do not use lotions from home before you go. They give you a 'blocking lotion' to use where you dont want to tan. I have solar nails so I use the lotion on my nails, my palms, bottom of my feet and very lightly across my toes and ankles. Even though you dont spray the bottoms of your feet, walking in the booth and out can get the spray on your feet. After 30 minutes or so be sure to wash your hands with soap and a brush, making sure to get your wrist and knuckles. You will still be tan there, but not darker than the rest of your body. Hope this helps!

Hi! I have tried the mystic tan before and it was really nice...the only fault i had was that my hands and the bottom of my feet were really that orange color that looked really fake and it took a lil bit for it to eventually fade away, but for the most part i liked it! I liked how you have a nice color so quick and easy! It last up to about a week and a half or so...god luck and i hope i helped a lil bit!!!

I like it. It's much safer than tanning beds and I like the color I get. I DO think it's kinda smelly, though... especially the first day. It smells like sweet potatoes to me. After that, the smell seems to go away. HTH!

Tanning is so overrated. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Which means no matter how you look you will be admired by people that are attracted to your skin tone. Also that means that people are spending money right now trying to achieve what you have naturally. Skin bleaching kits are the latest fad in super expensive beauty supplies. The trick is to love what you have, and don't fall into the trap of wanting things just because you don't have them. Try to focus on the advantages of having beautiful ivory skin.

I have had it a few times. I really liked it. However, it can be high maintenance. You may not get the color you desire on the first go. Then once you get the color you will need to go for maintenance. I don't recall being sticky but you do need to wait and dry. Then you rub off the excess. Go for it!

Hi H.,

I have tried Mystic Tan before, and I love the look. But of course, it only lasts for about a week. I usually get it done, when I am going to wear a nice dress that will show some skin, or in the summer. Just make sure they explain how to position yourself, what you need to remove, and where to apply their cream that will protect your palm of your hands and feet. This area is a bit more delicate and will absorb color much easier.Be careful if shower is not working properly, sometimes the spray might spray a little too much and might leave some blotches. If it does leave you spots, just let them know right away and they will apply some cream that will remove it right away and then they will give you the tint cream to blend it in with your tan. Overall, its not that bad and I love the look and feels normal. It makes my skin look flawless. ; ) Enjoy!

I am one of those individuals who absolutely does not tan so I used the mystic tan alternative all of last summer. It's certainly better for you than the tanning beds but it does leave an obvious odor. It's nothing that scented lotion applied after your shower can't cover up!

I think Mystic Tan is smelly, but it did put a nice color on me. Just make sure you coat( with there lotion/ointment) your hands and in between your fingers really well and your feet or wear those booties because I had some major blotchy discolored areas there. Good luck!

I have done the mystic tan for a couple of years now and i love it! Just some tips if you do it, dont wear a white bra or clothing when you go do it, wear loose clothing, it will stain your clothes and try not to take a bath or shower as long as possible as you can stand it for a couple of hours that way you don't wash the tan off and it has time to sit on your skin and tan you, also if you decide to do mystic tan besure to rub it in good to your skin after you do it that way your not blotchy.
Good luck!
