When my girl was 11/2, she fell, hit her mouth on a hard wood floor, and pushed her left front tooth backwards. The tooth moved forward on its own and stabalized, and then when she was almost 4 she was knocked forward by my dog, hit her mouth on the leg of a desk, and loosened both front teeth on the top. I brought her to the dentest the next day (she had her first appointment scheduled for hte following week) and he took x rays. he told me that she needed the top left tooth pulled out, because an injured tooth is like a donated organ. Sometimes the body rejects it, and her body had started to eat away at the root, causing half of the root to disappear. Her tooth would never be able to stablize itself! He also said that the x rays showed the damage, and the following week when she went to the appt she had, he would have wound up telling me it needed to go anyway. (at least seh didn't actually lose the tooth because of my doggie!)
She came back for the regular appt the following week, and that was when they pulled the injured tooth. She was awake, and did fine. the only time she cried was when they used the vacuum thingy to suck out her saliva. She didn't like that one bit. The actual pulling of the tooth didn't bother her at all!
She is now 6, and her adult tooth finally came in! That is probably the worse part of the whole ordeal. She has lost other baby teeth, and the adult teeth didnt bother her when they came in, but the gum where her pulled tooth had been healed over, and so her adult tooth was breaking through completely healed gum. It was like teething again with that particular spot. She did well, though.
hope my story helped you a bit! I wouldn't be overly freaked out about it. I would suggest thast you take her to a dentist she is completely comfortable with, though. Good Luck.
