My Son's Toes

I am curious if anyone else has noticed this about their child. Mine is 5 months old and when playing with him and his feet this morning I noticed the pads of his toes are almost triangle/pyramid shaped. I have pushed on them and he doesn't notice or respond as if it is painful. Is this something that he will grow out of, should I be concerned? I really don't want to take him to the doctor, as I am sure this is something not to be concerned about.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for responding. It makes sense that they would be kind of funny looking because he isn't putting weight on them by walking... duh. I'm not concerned, he's a ham and a goof, makes me smile!

I've never seen a baby's toes that looked like what you describe and most babies have very sensitive feet and feet, so he should be responding to you pushing on them, at least a little bit. I know as new Mom's that we can be unsure about taking them to the Dr. over every little thing, I know I was, and I talked to the nurses a lot over the phone! However, I think you should get him an appointment, it's always better to be safe than sorry. If it's almost time for his 6 month shots then when you make the appointment for that you can tell them you also want him seen because you have concerns about his feet. But if it isn't almost time for those shots, I think you should make an appointment now, even if it's just to give you piece of mind that he's okay. Good luck.

Hello! I am a mother of a 6 month old. I noticed that with my daughter too. From my understanding this is just the way little toes are! They don't walk on them or put pressure on them so the bottom of the cute little toes aren't flat like ours! I was a little worried about it too when I notices my daughter's round little piggies a couple months ago! Hope that helps!

I know this is an old thread so I am not sure if someone will respond. I am having the same problem with my four and a half month old son. I was thinking it was b/c I was trying to milk all his clothes for as long as I could and was putting him in too small footie pajamas. Did they correct themselves when your son started walking? Thanks. =-D

D.,

I wouldn't worry about it. My sister had her first baby this past year and her little girl had funny little toe's too. Only, it wasn't just the pads of her toes but her toe nails were all little triangles. As she is growing older though, her toes are plumping out and the toe nails (all but two) are taking on a regular shape. As far as the pads of your sons toes...I'm sure they will flatten out when he starts walking, if not sooner. It will just be extra cushion for his step!

Yep it's perefectly normal and one of the things that make baby feet SO cute! I love to kiss my baby's squished up toes! I have six children and ALL of them had cute little triangle toes... my oldest is 11 now and the youngest 13 months, all of my kids walk just fine! hahaha! And all of their toes have spread out just right. So enjoy them while he's got them!

Hi D., it's perfectly normal. I'm a neonatal nurse, and have a 5 yr old son. I can totally relate to being worried about any and every little thing that you are unfamiliar with, I even did this when my son was a baby (yes, even while being a nurse). I hope this comforts you. Pressing the pads of a babies toes doesn't neccessarily have to cause a reaction. Take care!

Hi. I have been searching the internet to find out if this means anything. I just took my daughter to the doctor today for a well visit and he suggested I go to the dermatologist. Have you heard anything else about this? I would love to see pictures so I can see if it is similar to my daughters. I am going to search the web. Thanks!
