Hi my son is 3 1/2 years old, a very funny, playful and good little boy. When he was about 4 months old we took my to Miami (a 4hr car trip) and suddenly he threw up and he stopped, so we worried but left it like that and didn't happened again till he turned a year and half, then suddenly everytime he was in the car, he threw up easily, didn't matter how close or far we were going, or not to give him anything to eat or drink even an hour before leavin, that happened about 98% of the time everytime in the car. WE numerously told different doctors, they said it will go away, to give him a little bit of benadryl, or buy those seasick bands to wear on the wrist, blah, blah, blah...wish w/the seasick bands we did kinda good, but same problem. Then he started @ pre-k at the local school, they were giving him assistance there w/speech, and he would only throw up in the afternoons when he would be in the bus for an hour and then they changed him to another bus, where he would only be in for 15 minutes and he did extremely fine for 5 months, even in the car w/out bands, and nothing. Now in the past 3 weeks he has thrown up 3 times again same problem. And I have no idea what else to do at this point doctors are the same thoughts and I'm scared about him getting "carsick" again especially in the bus. Any suggestions from moms on what could be or do???? oh, before I forget one dc suggest those pills for seasick overthe counter, but we only did it before he went to school but not after.
So, please help us!!!
Thank YOu!

Get his eyes checked...My daughter got carsick alot until we got her eyes checked. Now that she has glasses and can see what is going on outside the car she is fine!
Ginger is a natural motion sickness help and no side affects found in any health food store. Please have his ears checked by a specialist - if he is having speech problems and motion sickness it could be an ear problem.

My son used to get carsick as a toddler-- but of couse he only did it when I was alone in the car with him in the middle of the highway with no place to pull over! I used to try not to feed him so he wouldn't have anything in his belly to throw up-- and it took me a long time to finally figure out that the empty stomach was what was making him ill. As long as he eats something, he's fine-- but on an empty stomach if he is in the car for a long time, I see his lips starting to lose color and that's when I know I need to pull over. Make sure he looks out the front window, not the side, and fresh air from an open window seems to help when he is starting to feel yucky. Keep plain saltine crackers in the car in case he has an empty stomach or to give to him if he starts to feel ill.
Hi. I'm the mother of a 6 yr old boy & a 2 1/2 yr old girl & both of them get car sick as well. My little girl is worst than my son. Just going 2 the mall we would have 2 stop a few times & always bring a change if clothes & a towel but what we have found that works is the childrens chewable Dramamine. We bought it @ Walgreens. I give 1/2 to my daughter & a full 1 to my son @ least 1/2 hr before traveling. It has worked great. Anyway I hope this works cause we just took a 9 hr drive & it worked like a charm 4 us. Now we use it everytime & we don't have anymore problems.
Wish u lots of luck.
I used to get car sick when i was little and didnt like the benedryl because it put me to sleep. Try opening a window or letting him sit so he can see out a side window. i found that as long as i could see out and i could have wind blowing in my face i would be ok. Also i got car sick on the hanna barbara ride at universal studios and it was because there was no air moving. So maybe if you dont want him sitting by the window with it down make sure he has a vent blowing on his face. Also maybe on the bus if he sits in the front where there is less bounce and he can see out of the front window that might help... Hope this helps.
Try candied ginger. You can purchase at health food stores or at Penzeys.com
It's a proven method - as seen on Myth Busters. Also, I used it when I was pregnant with the nausea.
It is spicy - but if you can give him very small, tiny pieces, he won't notice the heat.

good luck :)
Have you had his ears checked? does he have allergies. My sis-inlaw gets sick sometimes in the car when my brother drives, espcially when there is a sudden stop or turn. Your son is only 3 1/2 so it might be hard for him to say what or how he feels when he is riding in the car.Dont give up try to find a doctor that will help you.I wish i could recomend a good doctor, but im in the quest of finding one for my son.
Oh my gosh I threw up every time I was in the car in the back seat when a kid, and still get sick in the backseat today, and I'm a gramma- I have to be in the front- apple cider helps, making sure I'm not hot helps, but now I just drive and in the front I'm fine- best of luck just let him know he is not alone, and I have a perfectly great life, just don't put me in the back:-)
best of luck-k
I have been prone to motion sickness my entire life...it never went away. Please encourage your son to always sit where he can see out the front window. Looking out the side just makes it much worse. It is also helpful to have cool air blowing on your face (being hot also makes it worse). If you can give him cool clothe to put on his forehead when he starts to feel sick, that might help a little. Try to stay away from caffiene and fried foods. I think being hydrated and having a little bit of solid food (bread, crackers, oatmeal) in my stomach helps. When I go on trips, I take Dramimine. But, it really makes you sleepy!
Just be patient with your son. My dad used to not believe me when I would say that I felt sick. It is not in your son's mind...it is a physical ailment (probably related to balance and the inner ear). I love to travel and would do anything to be able to do it without feeling ill. Good luck and always have a bag handy when you travel.
My daughter use to do the same thing..she grew out of it though. Fortunately we had a Euro van that came with curtains to attach on the inside so she could look outside.
That helped. I always watched her expression after being in the car for a few minutes and when her face use to turn "green" like that nauseous look,I would try and drive slower, and help her concentrate on overcoming getting sick. Eliminating any kind of stimulation, like reading helps as well. Maybe if you could put some kind of window covering on his window?
I don't know if you had explored this reason, but are you sure it's not acid reflux? My son had that, and he would scream when we would drive in the car to anywhere but he never threw up. Good luck! keep me posted!
