Have you checked out The Motherhood Center? The place is a treasure trove of information, classes, and luxuries for new mothers. Go by and ask for a tour of the place or just pop in and look at the many brochures. The all female staff is helpful and friendly. You can ask about night nurse/doula, nanny or babysitter. You can also check out the website at www.motherhoodcenter.com

Hi S.,
I definitely reccomend a home based daycare for an infant. Although there are a lot of good daycare centers there are also some questionable ones. The thing I liked about using a home based daycare was the flexibility and also the fact that there were less children. My hcild was able to learn social skills but in a smaller environment. He was still exposed to germs etc, but nt as many as in a daycare center.

So I would suggest checking out your local Greensheet and going to meet and observe the daycares you call about. Look for cleanliness and no foul smells, as well as attentiveness of the care giver. There should be a separate room where the children nap. Also ask for their license information and references!!

I went through 3 home daycares before my son was 18 mos. Because of moving etc. So don't be afraid to switch! As far as daycare centers we have been through a few of those too! A few were good, and a few were bad!

Good luck!

Have you checked out Caregivers and Maids? It is a service located on South Voss (in Houston). You give them your criteria for a nanny, and then you go in and interview people. They have a couple of options for how they are paid (through the service, or directly). Check it out!

I have two kids and I am a big fan of daycare and not such a huge fan of in-home childcare when it comes to infants. My five-year-old can tell me when something goes wrong. My 18-moth-old cannot! For my baby, I like daycares with CAMERAS to document every minute of her day. It only takes a split second for something to go terribly wrong. I don't mean to sound scary, but that's the world we live in. Having cameras and lots of other workers around is not a guarantee by any means, but I think the workers are more conscious when they know they have to be because someone else is watching. I like Luv-N-Care. Large, many locations, reasonable - $165 a week. Owners with that many locations have a lot to lose... and as a mom, so do I - I feel it puts us on the same playing field. Good Luck! Going back to work is so hard. God Bless You and your baby!

Check out this website:

http://www.dfps.state.tx.us/child_care/Search_Texas_Child...

The website is thru the department of Family and Protective Services. You bring up the site and you can look up daycares (in homes and out) in your area.
