my two year old son recently started waking at night screaming and i go wait to see if he will fall back asleep and he never does. I then go into his room and lay with him until he falls back asleep, then a couple hours later he will wake up again and usually comes into out bedroom to sleep and at this point I am so tired I just let him get in our bed. I am 8mths pregnant and need to get some sleep. Im not sure whats wrong, when i ask him why he's crying he doesnt say anything. I need help on some ideas of how to get him to sleep in his own bed through the night with out waking up crying or screaming.

What can I do next?

any diet changes? what does he eat at night? I would look there first...

then I would offer him something to do when he wakes up
like keep a cup of water by the bed & tell him to take a few sips, take a few deep breaths, get his blankie or whatever and then maybe sing a song and go back to sleep
sounds silly, but maybe having something to 'do' might help
focus him and get him back to sleep
make it fun & silly
and you can role play the things you decide he should do
and while you role play you can take turns being him-
little ones love when you are 'them' so you can be him and get in his bed and play-act crying, really ham it up and be silly' and then go through the motinos/steps of what it is that he should do when this happens to him- ie: take a sip of water, get his blankie, climb back under the covers with his bunny
and sing 'twinkle twinkel' or something- whatever you think would work
good luck :-)

Definitely talk with your Pediatrician about it. My niece had night terrors pretty bad but they were able to calm them with a mild medication given to her before bed. They lasted from very young to about 2 or 3 years old. My sister would not give her the meds here and there to test it and figured out when they stopped and stopped the meds on her own. If it is night terrors he doesn't know he's doing it and therefore can't tell you what's upsetting him.

Maybe he's having night terrors, which will eventually pass, or maybe it's that there will be a new addition to the family. Kids react in many different ways. When the baby comes, just make sure that most of the attention is focused on him and have him help you with the baby and when anyone comes over to see your new baby, acknowledge him first. Hope it helps.

You should try to find out if he's scared of something. Maybe, he did have a bad dream. You really should reinforce that he is a big boy and that he is not alone: mommy and daddy are here. Music could be a good idea: maybe let the CD play all night or let him turn on the music when he wakes up. And, even a stuffed animal might help him feel safe. I would make sure as well that he has a night light. Last, but not least, do not let him climb in bed with you otherwise it will be difficult to brake the habit especially with a newborn on the way. Good luck!

I went through the same thing and it was to a point that i wasn't getting any sleep and was always tired or sleepy. What I started doing was playing and instrumental lullaby CD (i use Baby Einstein) to play all night. And before she goes to bed I read a book & pray. I then assure her that she's my princess and that because she's a big girl she sleeps in her own bed. I also got her a night light.

Try the CD it worked for me. She's been sleeping through the night for the past 4 months and I give it all to the CD, reading the book, & praying before going to bed.

Hope everything works out.

I am having the same issues with my little girl who is the same age. I was told that they dream at this age and are frightend. THis is why they wake up screaming and crying like someone just did something awful. I am trying to let my daughter know that she is a big girl and has to sleep in her big girl bed like mommy and daddy do. Just reinforce that he is a big boy and has to sleep in his big boy bed like mommy and daddy and he needs his rest to be strong and healthy. Be patient and keep your ground.
