You shouldnt put anything on it unless you know what it is. THat doesnt sound normal, you should probably take him to see a doctor.

Don't guess at it, and take him to the Doctor right away.
If you use something that is not appropriate, you risk making it worse, or him getting a worse infection, and then time will be wasted.

take care,
Susan

My son gets that too, and the doctor said it is not from lack of changing. My doctor had me make an ointment mixture of Lotrimin, Balmex and Aquaphor in equal parts to use when such rashes occur. If the rash is "raised" and really bad with no sign of going away after a day or so, go to the doctor because it can be a bacterial rash that may need antibiotics.
Good Luck! Hope this mixture works for you as it does us!

try this magic water. one pinch of salt and one pinch of baking soda. mixed in half a glass of warm enough water. apply directly to rinse and pat dry with a clean cotton cloth, or a new paper napkin or kleenex. and for god sakes have your child drink more water between meals. even 2-4 ounces will show you great improvement. if he has the rash only he will be ok with this, if he has fever and diahrrea take him to his doctor.

You seriously need to take him to see his doctor immediately. My daughter was about a month old when she developed a rash on her body. I thought it was heat rash at first. But as I examined the rash closely, I immediately brought her to see her doctor. As it turned out, she had some bacteria in her blood stream and if I had waited another day I would have lost my only baby girl. So please take your son in to see the doctor. It is better to be safe than sorry. Best of luck to you and your baby boy!

triple paste medicated cream. it's over the counter. try switching to cloth diapers and give him lots of air. no diaper. you can keep him on those disposable light blue pads that you sat on in the hospital after giving birth. they sell them in supermarkets and drug stores by the adult diapers. that'll keep your laundry from exploding on you while he goes diaperless.

most important is to change him more frequently.

if you're worried call the pediatrician.

ps.
I have 2 kids, both have gone through this. our pediatrician said air is the best cure. it happens when they poop more than usual or if i miss a poopy diaper (my bad sniffer) and they sat in it for more than 15-20 minutes. relax.

Use Lotramine AF. It's actually found in the section for treating athlete's foot. Also, use Creamy Desitine mixed with Maalox. It sounds strange, but it WORKS! The most important thing though is to let the air get to the rash to let it "breath". The more oxygen the area gets, the quicker it will heal. NO wet wipes while he has the rash. Use a wet cloth and then dry the area completely. FYI... all of this is advise I followed from my son's pediatrician.

Hi M., it's sounds more like a yeast infection, and not a regular diaper rash, I have had a few of my daycare babies get this, the thing that worked the best that their parent used was Butt Paste, if it is an yeast infection the anti fungal cream will work, just make sure it can be used on a 6 month old. What you can do to protect your baby's skin on a daily basis, is use a light coat of vaseeline with each changing, this is what my husband and I did with our 3 when they were baby's ( all grown now ) and out of 3 kids we only had one get a rash once, our first child, because he would wet through his diaper at night so one night i decided to put a cloth diaper on him under his huggie, and the next morning he had a rash, so i never did that again, and he never had a rash again. Hope this helps. J. L.

Hi M.,
Poor baby. I'm sure it probably doesn't feel very good either. It could be a diaper rash but I would check with a doctor first because it may be something completely different. I was at the Dr.'s last week with my little boy and he mentioned something about a rash on a babies bum could mean something other than a diaper rash. I forget what it was called. Some sort of virus or strep throat. Sorry I'm no help. I would say checking with the Dr. would be the best bet and peace of mind.

Hi M.!

I am a mom of two boys and both of them had the same thing. This can be quite common I was told by my doctor and what worked for me was to wash is gently everytime I changed diapers. Don't let them sit in wet or messy because this irritates the tender skin. Dry them thoroughly and then use A & D ointment. It contains Vitamin A which helps with rapid healing. It also contains vaseline which helps to block the liquids from irritating the skin.

Hope this helps, I was glad that it helped my boys and I swear by A & D.

Let it air out. It could get messy but this is the best way to take care of diaper rash. Don't put any antifungal cream on it before you let the doc check it out and determine if that's necessary. I suggest not putting anything but water and very gentle, all-natural soap to clean his bum. If you have to put disposable diapers on him (like if he has to go to daycare) I suggest using an all-natural diaper cream like Burt's Bee's. Check out your local health food store for other ideas. Good Luck!

Definitely take him to the doctor. It could also be a reaction to solid foods if you've started him on any. He could have an allergy. Our son got a real bad one that was so red, it looked bloody, when he was a week old. (Of course not on solids yet) We used A & D creamy and it cleared up in a couple of days. From that day on, we used cream on his butt everyday after each changing as a prevention of. It says on the containers can be used to prevent. Our son also got a bad rash when he was just over a year old and started to give him more foods to try. He was allergic to tomatoes and strawberries and got a horrible diaper rash right after eating Gerber's spaghetti meal.
Hopefully you can figure out what caused it. Find a good list of signs of food allergy/sensitivity that you can use. There are so many. Good luck.

I would use Aveno oatmeal bath and let the bum area soak for as long as your baby will sit in it, I have used it on all 3 of my babies.

Hi M.,

I have a friend who swears by using corn starch for diaper rashes. I personally swear by Aquaphor. I think both help relieve the rash.
