My Son in the Entertainment Industry

I have a 1 year old soon to be 13 months in two days who is with an agent. My question is she picked up my son as a client when he was 4 months old he is basically 13 month old now. We have made two photo cards for him and still nothing when I asked her she said it is a competitive area for babies with blonde hair and hazel eyes. The thing is I contently have other agent offering things for my son. I feel bad because I wasn't ever looking to put my son in the industry but I thought it might be fun to let him try it. So to try and make my son stand out we went to a photographer to take some really great phots of him. He was pretty reasonable for a photographer but still cost us a $100.00 an hour and in the end we paid $350.00 for his pictures. My qeustion is should I stay with my agent we have and see if these photo work or should I take up with another agent? Here is a link to my sons negative photos unfortunatly he fell right before and scuffed up his nose. But the first photo shows him with the touch up they will do later with no scuffs. http://hickeyjames.com/benjamin/ So tell me what you think and what I should do. Thanks

What can I do next?

Hi...
I've been in the industry myself for many years and my twin boys have an agent as well.
Word of advice:
A REAL agent does NOT request professional photos of infants, all they need are outdoor photos taken witha digital camera by YOU!

Please don't fall for those scams...
Good luck!!

K.,
I would take an honest look at why you are spending so much money, time and energy pursuing this when your son is just a baby who would probably rather be playing. He can't tell you whether this is something he wants or not. Unfortunately even if he could, he wouldn't know the consequences of the decision he is making. The entertainment industry is the last place I would want my child. There are enough negative influences on our children, I wouldn't add another. I would take your cute pics and put them in his baby book...

I agree with DeAnna. Your first agent hasn't gotten your son any "jobs" in almost 9 months ... if you're serious about doing this and there's another agent that has something with your son, I would go with them.

Good luck!

I looked at your son's pictures, and I think they are addorable, I love them, and I feel that if you have other agents wanting to have you as a client, and is offering you work for your son, I would cosider it highly, because if the agent you have now, hasn't done anything, I would chance agents, hopes this helps. Your son is gorgeous. Its an obvious choice, go where the work is, with another agent. That is the game.

Dear K.,

Well, sorry, but you should just drop the whole thing, I know that this sounds mean, but it is
truthful, if things do not go smoothly right away, then drop it. You need to bare down and have a great life with your great children, that exist right now.

Bye the bye, nothing is certain in this world. Have another child, if you want another child, otherwise, do not. C. N.

Well lets just start by saying he is super cute. I did the same thing with my daughter when she was little and paid $750.00 for pictures, however they told me head shots are good for 2 years. I didnt understand that because kids change so much monthly or even weekly but thats what I was told.
If the agent you are woring with hasnt found you anything there is no reason you cant have several different ones, unless you signed a contract.

I think that you should change agents if you have another agent who is offering you jobs for your son. You spent a lot of money on pictures so you might as well put them to go use.

How did an agent become aware of your son? I was just wondering the story behind that; how did he get discovered? I think that is interesting.

Wow.. Thats hard. I think if you have another agent offering you more opportunities, then it would probably be wise to switch. You have invested so much into it and he is a beautiful baby.
I have considered putting my 2 youngest children in modeling also... but everytime I get frustrated. I dont know where to start or how to do it. Maybe you could let me know how you did. I would appreciate it. My son is 20 months old, and my daughter is nine months...

Your little one is sooo cute!! Well as a parent you want to do what is best..so I say if the agent isn't bringing any business then I would go else where. My son was approached once by an agent and I thought about it but at the time I didn't have the money to spend on everything that goes with it. Sometimes I regret it but I feel if it's meant to be it will happen.Good Luck to you and your son!!

I don't have any experience in this area. Yet if you want your son to be in things, I would say go with maybe another agent. I was also wondering where you got your pictures done. I would like to put my twins in the entertainment field. I have a boy and a girl.

I would appericate the information.

Thank you.

Hi K.

It is interesting that they had you do pictures for him. Being that he is so young, casting agents usually just accept a simple snapshot. I would try a different agency. Not sure what agency you have your son with, but Coast is a good childrens agency. He may not be going out as much because a lot of time they want to see "twins" because of the hour rules with children and shooting, etc. they can switch them out easily. Hope this helps you out. :)

My son is an actor. He gotten into this industry a little over a year ago. DONT DO ANYTHING until you know what kind of contract you signed, if you did. If it is a signed contract then you are obligated to be with them, however there is a loop hole. If you child has not been called for any casting, photo shot, etc. then you are a FREE AGENT. If your child has been seen, but has not been the chosen one, you are obligated to stay with that agent until the contract is up. By the way, did yo do your research on this agent? There are quite a bit of agents out there that are not legal. Did you pay any fees to this "agent"? A suggestion would be to inform your "agent" other agencies have been contacting you. Be firm, let your agent KNOW exactly how you feel. Remember if your child does not work, the agent isnt getting paid either. Hope this helps. Any questions you can always email me : ____@____.com

Your son is adorable!!!! Yes, I would talk to different agents as long as you are not in a contract, you can take him to as many places as poss. and get his name out there also My daughter did it when she was little it is a VERY competitive market in Vegas being so close to Hollywood. Keep him in the mix he will get somthing it takes time.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Hey K.,

In order to keep loyalty, you must earn loyatly. If your agent has not gotten your son a gig you need to drop him/her. Ad agencies are usually looking for not only a specific look but a specific age. Your son has already missed out as an infant model, and will soon be out of the baby category too, next is toddler. You do not have time to waste on non-productive agents. PLUS a real agent would never tell you to get professional photos taken. A really good home photo would do. All you need is to capture your sons essence and if that is the "look" the agent is looking for and know they can sell him, they new agency will pay for the photos themselves if they are needed. Also, agencies will never ever ask for money up from for any type of fees or anything. they will get their 10% after your child books and does a gig. I hope this helped. And your son is adorable, I do not see why he wouldn't get work. I like the picture on the bottom row on the first page of him looking up at the camera, with the white shirt and blue jeans.

Hi K.. I think your agent is trynig to suck you dry. You said the other agents were offering him stuff right? Before you had the new pics taken? That should be clue number 1.
Second, I think if your agent is helping, getting the jobs, whatever, you should find someone who does. This is the reason you got him in to showbusiness right? To get him jobs? Well, I hate to be mean but if she doesn't cut it, then send her packing. Or you can be loyal and just hope she works out.
As to your son being in showbusiness, there has been many big time actors that had their start when they were months old. I wouldn't feel bad. Your son is cute. Let him try to be an actor. Then he can take care of mommy when he's older. lol.
Just remember to put him first. His money, job, or outer apperance is not as important as He is. Make sure that he has the best you can give him emotionally and physically.
I hope this helps calm your mind and give you smoe insight into your agent problem. Good luck with this!! Best wishes, T.

Personally, if other agents are approaching you, and this is something you want to pursue- then you should broaden your casting net and have more then one agent working for you. If you can afford it. Then when an agent actually lands you a paying gig, then work closer with that agent. Like a temp agency, different agencies have different connections. IF you are looking for a job then you want to have the most potential exposure and opportunities. This would be no different.
