when my son wakes up he's really in a frantic and panic stage. He cries like he's scared and I tell him it's ok but he still wallks around like he's looking for something and just moves around like a chicken with his head cut off like that frantic! He gets out of it when he falls back asleep but this happened so many times it's worrying me!

What can I do next?

It is so hard to watch your child frantic and scared and you are helpless to comfort them. This does sound like night terrors. He is probably still asleep and actually never wakes up during this. Ask your pediatrician for advice. Good luck!

Night terrors, not the same thing at all as nightmares. Call your Ped for advice on how to deal with them. It's very common for the age.

Hi T.....one of our sons would have night terrors that would last for up to an hour and a half. We noticed they would often happen when he was over tired....he's always required lots of sleep. One thing we did when we knew that he was over tired, would be to wake him up an hour after he fell asleep...ALL the way awake for a few minutes, then put him back to bed. It seemed to stop the sleep pattern and he would sleep the rest of the night with no problems. If he did have one, we would turn on the lights in the room and try to get him to wake up. It's so tough...they can be very scary!

Sounds like night terrors. My daughter had @ age 1 for a bit. The Dr said don't wake them up, just keep them safe and they don't remember anything. Terrifying to a mom, but doesn't hurt them for my understanding.

Does he remember the incidents in the morning after these happen? Sounds like Night Terrors to me.
