Sorry......just had to say it. We are relocating in 3 weeks, I'm trying to get everything ready, and he is running around like a chicken with his head cut off. JUST SIT DOWN FOR 5 MINUTES is what I really want to say. AHHHHHHHHHH! Ok. I feel alittle better.

What can I do next?

Don't forget that he's reacting to your stress, too. He doesn't know it or totally understand it, but it affects him.

Can you give him more jobs to do? My boys can do some good cleaning when they have extra energy.

I understand. My son is 11 and he still does that. Do you have a 12 or 13 year old in the neighborhood who could come and play with him for a couple hours a day while you get stuff done. Also, I find that giving a task also helps for awhile. He may not do it well, but at least it gives him something to do.

Been thru this so I know what it's like. First, do you have a friend or neighbor that he can spend some time with for awhile to give you a break so you can work alone? Second, give him little tasks to do that will keep him busy - give him a box and let him pack his own toys, clothes, etc. Give him a little mop or a duster and let him clean so the place is nice for the next family, etc. I gave little assignments and it worked great. Give him a stack of paper and crayons and have him draw what he thinks he'll see at the new place, etc. Do you have a digital camera? Let him walk around and take pictures of everything so he won't forget what his "old" home looks like. I love the digital cameras instead of film cameras because I don't care how many pictures they take and nothing says I have to get them all developed!! Good Luck!!

I have a 4 almost 5 year old boy... and he is like that too.
Boys... are VERY active.
Phew.

BUT... for my son, he gets like that when he is OVER-tired.
When HE is tired, he gets more "hyper."
Versus, when my daughter is tired, she is... tired.... and like a droopy plant.

So, maybe have your son NAP.
My kids, still nap. They are so active and need it, still.
They still sleep fine at night.

I am not relocating, but my six year old is driving me crazy lately too! Thanks for making me feel like i am not alone. :)

I have to hear several times a day how she is mad at me! This morning it was because I pushed the button on the tv to turn it off when she was going to do it on the remote! OH WHAT A HORRIBLE MOM I AM!!! Right?!

I don't really have any suggestions. Just wanted to say that I am sure he is feeling the stress too and may need some one on one attention for a few minutes. A little relax time with mommy. Maybe he could help pack boxes or something? Remember the towels will move just the same if you fold them perfect or he puts his 6 year old spin on towel folding. :)
