My daughter just turned 2 months and she started out with a very mild case of cradle cap and then her face, neck, and ears got red patchy and yellowish crusty. Our case is seborrheic dermatitis. It's supposed to just go away on its own but I can see my baby is quite uncomfortable with it, especially at night. So for her cradle cap, I use olive oil on a cotton ball and apply it on her head every morning before her bath then comb out the flakes with a fine tooth comb. In a few days, her cradle cap lessened greatly. I didn't even have to use the scalp lotion (triamcinolone acetonide) the doctor advised. As for the red patches and crusties on her face, neck, arms, I was told to apply a thin layer of daktacort cream (miconazole nitrate+hydrocortisone)2x a day for 5 days. Its only been 3 days and the red patches have subsided. My 3 year old daughter had the same experience so they are both sharing the same soap and lotion. We only use Cetaphil cleanser as their bath soap and Cetaphil lotion. What we do is this: After their bath, while the skin is still damp, we add another layer of cetaphil cleanser and instead of rinsing it off, we just pat off the excess with a towel. Then put on the lotion. It works so well that my 3 year old has not had an episode with atopic dermatitis/eczema since she was just a few months old.
I agree with what one of those who replied said about some Johnson's products. I put baby oil to clean her navel and her tummy area broke out in rashes. I also tried using Nivea Baby products on them both and their skin got all bumpy. I was told that Eucerin Calming creme works wonders. I haven't tried it yet, though.
