My son had the same problem. Started sbout the same age. Saline and a humidifier worked sometimes but other times, he was still congested and snoring so much. Per the doctor's suggestion, we tried children's clariten and Zyrtec but that didn't really wok. When the snoring got worse (sleep apnea), we saw an ENT. My son had the biggest tonsils and the ENT said his adenoids were likely enlarged as well. Once they were removed, his breathing was so much better. it was like night and day! So just keep this in mind if things don't get 100% better.

If this is an ongoing problem, I suggest you take her to the doctor. Allergies could be causing this.

If it's recent because she has a cold then you can use a cool mist humidifier in her room. Vicks baby rub may also help.

I would not try to hold her over a bowl of hot water. It's too dangerous at this age. She will squirm and is apt to get a hand in the water or spill it. But running the shower really hot until the bathroom steams up may help.

My daughter has tried a Nose Frida, snot sucker, and decided to not use it because it upset the baby so much that she developed even more snot. If you want to try it, I found one at Whole Foods, a natural foods store.

Having her sleep in a more upright position may help. Raise the head of her mattress by putting folded blankets or pillows under the mattress.

Suck out the gunk first (we used just a regular bulb--so the spray can get through) and then use the saline spray (they have it for little ones usually in the baby aisle). It make take 5 or 10 minutes before you notice the full effect, but it works for 2-3 hours. Try it yourself once, and you'll see! It's like short-term Sudafed without the jitters. Sure, she won't like it, but she'll sleep. Repeat when she wakes up gunky a few hours later. BTW, it seems like the snot produced by crying is thinner, so I don't feel like the crying really makes it worse. And a cuddle calms them down fast.

Saline Nose Spray. Kid will hate it but it works. That' what was suggested for my 2 yr old . I would call doc, & make sure it's OK for a 1 yr old.

Steam. Get a steamer for her room. You can also put her in the bathtub for a bath and let her play a little longer than normal so she can breath in the steam. Or being very careful hold her face over a bowl of hot water. You need to be very careful with this one and hold her hands and legs firmly so she can't knock over the water or put her hand in it or she will get a bad burn. Sometimes it helps to drape a towel over the head and the bowl to concentrate the steam toward the face.

If it doesn't get better in a few days call her doctor.

You need to get a Nose Frida also known as a Snot Sucker. It is like the bulb thing, but works WAY better. basically, you stick it to the nose and suck. It sucks out all the yuck. Look online, or go to a fancy baby botique. Mine cost $15 and it was worth every penny. This is what I would give all new parents.

Also, using vicks Baby rub is nice for them. Either have her sleep in her infant car seat if she can still fit, or put some blankets under the mattress of her crib. This will help the snot drain.

I found it at walmart online actually.

Good luck and keep coming back for more help being a new parent is hard.
