My Iron Bit the Dust!

My iron finally gave up the other night after several years of use. I have to get a new one soon! I borrowed an old one from my mom, but it doesn't give off as much steam as I would like. Do any of you have an iron that you love? Mine was kind of old, so I doubt they make the same one, and I would like to upgrade anyway. I don't want to spend a fortune, but would like a good quality iron.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

Sometimes my iron doesn't steam quite like I want or it needs to be too hot, so I keep a spray bottle of water handy. For some items that I don't want the iron to cause a "shine", I use a press cloth. I never had a steam iron until I bought my Black and Decker 460 Quick N Easy iron a few years ago. My trusty water bottle did the trick. Believe it or not, my first and only iron was a GE that I got for high school graduation lasted 35 years and the cord wore out but the iron was awesome, though no steam.

Take the clothes out of the dryer and forget the iron. I hate that thing!

The big problem is that every year manufacturers bring out a new model - of almost everything. It's so frustrating. It's nearly impossible to find a replacement of a product you really liked - including clothing! And irons these days seem to be very expensive. I bought a cheap one at Home Depot a couple of years ago and it's fine. My neice has one that was on her bridal registry that is wonderful - but it was close to $75...!!!! So I feel your pain - but don't have a good answer for you!

I use my iron about three times a year. LOL
Last one I bought was about three years ago, from Walmart - it is a Sunbeam - makes lots of steam - has different steam settings, and works quite well the few times I use it. It also has a self cleaning setting.
I know I didn't pay more than $30 dollars for it. I am way too cheap to spend more than that.

But, I agree with Em24d. Hate to iron - always burn myself. LOL

I always thought Rowenta set the standard for steam irons. I'm not sure that is still the case. I know there are different price points for Rowenta irons.

I have (but really don't use) the Rowenta Professional model. Mine has a teflon face plate and any time I use sizing there is residual build up which can mare the next clothes I'm ironing. It is a real pain in the butt unless I use face plate cleaner but when I do I go through A LOT of it. For as little as I iron/sew now I just use a cheapo iron I bought for around $7 at Target. (as you can tell I don't iron much!)

Rowenta does make a regular (shiny) face plate (not the teflon). If I had to do it again that is the way I would go.

I agreed with B.D. from Pittsburgh because I also experience the same build up on my Rowenta, but when I looked at my face plate, I found that I have the shiny face plate not the tefflon one.

I don't know what to tell you because I thought if I ever replaced my iron, I would like to find one that wouldn't get the residue on the face plate and then put it onto the next clothes. Maybe there's a way to get the residue off, but of course when I go to clean it (when it's not hot) I can't get that residue off.

I've had the iron for about 5 years and other than the residue thing, I like it.

As much as I HATE to iron (yes, I used all caps for a reason) I do iron! I think it goes back to nursing school and being a new nurse with old school teachers and supervisors. Everything had to be neat and crisp before you got blood on it! ;)

But, I've had 3 Rowenta's in 2 years and will never buy another. My MIL swears by them, and I tried all price points and had issues with all. I recently bought a DeLonghi at Bed Bath and Beyond and so far so good. I did a little research and it seems to be a good name. Of course so does the Rowenta. It was $70 but I had a 20% off coupon.

I've saved my little Black & Decker to use in between. It's a good little iron but just not heavy enough nor enough steam for me.
