I have some symptoms that I have had since I was a teen such as extreme fatigue, however over the past couple of years I have felt like I have aged like crazy, I am sore and stiff, my memory has goten bad, and I have horrible skin on my chest, I have found lately that I can't take sulfa drugs because they make me incredibly sick, and I just feel sore and achy most of the time. My doc referred me to an ENT to look closer at my thyroid, he ran blood work and my ANA is positive with a titer of 1:640. So as of now, my ENT is going to send me to a rheumatologist??? Does aynone have any thoughts on this?
Thanks

What can I do next?

Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and thyroid issues all go hand and hand; and it sounds like you very well may be suffering from these issues. I agree with some of the other comments that you should look into this. I've been dealing with fibromyalgia for over 20 years and I have may of the same symptoms.

I am sorry you are having this issue. I have had medical issues that worsen and it stinks to be young, yet feel so weak, tired, and old.

my husband went online and researched supplements. He took them as described and ended up hospitalized. the glycocemine(spelling) interacted with a prescription and caused his digestive system to totally block up.
he nearly had a heart attack.
I would let your doctor know everything you are doing to help yourself so he can watch for dangerous interactions.

your symptoms are alike mine. i think he has referred you to the appropriate person, i'd add endocrinologist to the list of people to see too (thyroid-related issues).

A good naturopath doctor would be a different set of qualified eyes to review your health. She/he will work in conjunction with your medical doctor.

You should google Fibromyaglia and see if it looks like what you are going through. Sounds like it to me.

S.,
I think you should make an app with a wellness doctor who specializes in bioidentical hormones. I have been hearing about such remarkable improvement in many people with similar symptoms. Most insurances don't cover them, but it is so worth it. Its sounds like your hormones are imbalanced and these doctors take your blood and test all your hormone levels unlike the regular doctors. The wellness doctors specialize in just you and your symptoms and help make a plan that works best for YOUR body and not give you a drug that is "one size fits all". Good luck with your search. I recommend Dr. Brownstein in West Bloomfield, but he is very hard to get to, although there are two other doctors that work with him that may be available.

Thought: doctor's always give us the option of a second opinion. Take advantage of it and get an alternative approach. Like an acupuncturist, homeopathic, etc. At least you'd have two opinions. The alternative will however offer healthier solutions. Maybe it's a matter of diet. Or vitamin/mineral deficiency.
To Improve memory, get a puzzle magazine, like the Dell brand pencil puzzles because doing things like that does help the brain functions.
Also what you cook with makes a difference too. Are you using aluminum pots/pans? Aluminum is closely linked to dementia and Alzheimers. So make changes now to prevent things later.

It stinks to be sick! Know that there are other options. If you want to explore wellness solutions, let me know. We can talk about how natural alternatives can help you to build your immune system and get the pep back in your step.

It works for me. I love that the only "side effect" is better health!

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

By EBV, do you mean Epstein Barr Virus? I became deathly ill at the age of 8 (VERY RARE) with non-stop vomiting, motion sickness, disorientation, loss of appetite, weight loss, extreme fatigue. After scary months of tests and losing 25 lbs as an already small child, leukemia and numerous other things were ruled out and EBV to blame.

CFS was fairly new at that point as a diagnosis and not something little kids contracted. At that time, there has been strange cluster outbreaks of it, in girls in California (where I was living).

Bizarre....lost a whole year of school and fell behind in math and science, suffered a relapse senior year of high school and first semester of college after receiving booster vaccinations for college-all the same probs returned. I fully believe the toxins were a trigger to my underlying condition.,

It's a mysterious illness and questioned by many as a mental disorder, etc. But when you suffer those symptoms, you know, it's REAL! I highly recommend looking in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or ME as they now call it in the UK. Lots of research out there. Osler's Web is a great book about it too.

The one thing I have found to be helpful is tons of rest, quiet, and loads of vitamin C. Sounds simple, but every time I have relapsed, an almost cleanse of sorts and very simple diet with lots of vitamin C has gotten me back on track.

A few years ago, when I was 39, I started feeling sore and within a week, I could barely move, I was so stiff and achey, tired, ect. My ANA was through the roof but my rhuematoid factor was negative. I saw a rheumatologist who treated me like I had RA - started me on steroids just to be able to move and then I took Methyltrexate and Asulphazine for 2 years. My x-rays were always negative and I just wasn't convinced that I had RA. I started going to the Downing Clinic in Clarkston. They are an integrated medicine place - Doctors, nurses, etc. but integrate holistic remedies and natural supplements as well. There is a woman there that does a test called an Electrodermal Screening to look for imbalances, allergies and infections in your body. She found that I had candida in my joints and another infection. We started treating that and then found that I have a sensitivity to gluten, too. (Although, I'm not good at staying away from that.) I take supplements and have been able to get completely off of my prescription medicine. I'm not sore at all anymore. Still more tired than I would like but I will take that over the soreness. Hang in there and just keep looking for answers. There are so many things that can cause your symptoms. I was also really low in Vitamin D and that can cause havoc on your whole system. Take care.

Auto-immune disorder is what it sounds like and although it sounds big lots of us have some form of it. Absolutely supplements could very well make a difference. They helped me and they helped a good friend of mine. But you should keep your appt with the rheumatologist and get a complete diagnosis to see how he/she can help you too so that you can make some good choices on how to proceed. I think getting a diagnosis is going to help you find ways to feel better, and soon! I'd be happy to share supplement ideas. This is what I do for a living.

S.,

Could you have food sensitivities where the symptoms are presenting themselves as a thyroid condition or rheumatism?

Food intolerances are not food allergies, the way the body reacts to the chemicals it cannot process is different. With a food allergy the body mobilizes a histamine response to handle the invading chemical. With food intolerances the body is unable to break the food into usable sugar chains so instead it takes these unusable chemical groups and stores them around the body where ever it can.

My son is intolerant to wheat, corn, soy, oats, dairy and eggs. When he eats dairy his mucus membranes start over producing - all over his body. When he eats soy he acts as if he has ADHD and starts bouncing off the walls, within 40 minutes of ingesting soy. When he eats wheat he gets very tired and achy and just feels sick all over.

All of these symptoms, when looked at alone, could present as a specific type of disease, but they are all linked to his food intolerances. I would recommend you see an allergist and get a blood test for food intolerances / allergies. It's not as accurate as a prick test, but as far as I am aware a prick test does not show results of food intolerances, only food allergies.

I see Dr. Gerald Gilroy off of Lake Lansing Road in East Lansing. His allergy staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. If you have any questions about his office please send me a private message. Here is his office phone number: ###-###-####

Good luck and I hope you start to feel better soon.
