My Doctor Wants Me to Have My 5Th D&C

I am a 55 year old post menopausal woman. I have had problems with fibroids and now Endometrial Hyperplasia. I started having D&C's in 1997 and had my 4th in 2011. I had bleeding and cramping again and my doc is rushing to give me another one. I told her I am totally done with these procedures and why can't I just have a hysterectomy and get it over with? I am a mom of 2 grown sons and a grandma of 3. Has anyone had multiple D&C Procedures?

What can I do next?

Get a new doctor! I am 52 and had some post menopausal spotting and my doc sent me to my ObGyn who did ultrasound and biopsy and bloodwork and fortunately biopsy was not cancerous. But the approach should not be just another cleaning of the lining, but full investigation. ANY post menopausal bleeding is cause for concern. Repeated instances would have me running to a specialist. Get a second opinion ASAP and my doc said if the biopsy showed pre cancerous cells (which I think Endo Hyperplasia might mean, no doc here) then her recommendation would be hysterectomy. Good luck.

Second opinion, now. What about an ablation? Where they permanently freeze your lining off? There are more options out there.

Another vote for a second opinion. Your statement that she is "rushing" to give you another one is kind of alarming to me!!

Please keep us posted!

Welcome to mamapedia!!

You need to get a second opinion. There's a thing about having TOO many. If you are post menopausal - you should NOT be bleeding AT ALL. That your doctor wants to do a D&C instead of permanently fixing the problem - that would bother me.

Go get a second opinion!!!

I agree that if you are post menopausal, that this is a strange request. Have you considered having your thyroid checked? Not just in a blood test, but with an ultrasound? I have Endometriosis, and several friends have suggested lately that my problems may be due to a thyroid problem.

Actually, I just read this article yesterday.

Something simple to get checked vs a hysterectomy.

If you are post menopause & having ANY type of discharge, that is a red flag to have a biopsy done.

My mother was diagnosed with uterine cancer a few years ago. She went in saying there was some discharge & spotting, & her gyno whipped her right over to an oncologist.

Stage 2, full hysterectomy & she is right as rain.

But, if you have other issues that can cause discharge, in my personal (non-medical) opinion, that would be a good reason to have a follow up with an oncologist just to make sure there is nothing cancerous going on. It would make sense to then to have a full hysterectomy, so that you don't continue to have bleeding or any type of discharge that might be mistaken for something it's not.

I strongly urge you to insist on a referal for an oncologist consultation, or if your insurance plan allows you to, just make an appoinment with someone yourself. It's your body, take control & make the decisions that are right for you.

Saying a quick prayer that this is nothing serious, & you are able to get a resolution that works for you. T.
