Have her call the school. She can get a loan if she can't get financial aide.
Go talk to someone right away.If her grades are good and she wants to go, she should. Sometimes waiting means never going back.
L. every poster is right. Don't give up before speaking to student financial aid dept. When I went to school I worked FT and went to school FT. Although this may not be ideal, there are many ways she can set up her school schedule to work with a work schedule. Hopefully her school is in a "college town" where almost every job is for students of that college. If she goes to Hunter, or any city college it can be hard for her to skip a year and try to find a job, because NYC is having a very hard time with employing any one at any skill set or job description. Exhaust all your financial opportunities through the school before you ask her to wait a year. Best of luck I know it's hard to deny your child.
Has your daughter/you talked to financial aid about work/study programs? I did that when I was in college...they gave me a job on campus that paid me a little bit. Also as others suggested, talked to financial aid for other potential loans, grants or maybe even you and she can set up a payment plan with them. If you are out of work, I'd think financial aid should be able to assist in some way. As my parents did, beg, borrow, helped and made me work too. LOL! I am thankful for that...IF she has to miss a semester though, she may just HAVE to do it...I hope not though.
You need to contact the college's financial aid office. You need to explain the situation. They will know how to help you.

Did she take out the max student loan for herself? I think it's $5,500. Go to the fincl aide office with her, there are ways to make it work. My daughter is in college & last year they said there was a large balance due & my husband went there with her & everything worked out.
Definately talk to your daughter and the financial aid office. Another option is student loans.
Talk to your daughter about the current situation and then call the financial aid office, there is grants and loans out there for this type of situation. I'm currently going back to school for my second bachelors and am unemployed with two children, I was suppose to pay 2500 for the fall before i could attend. I contacted them and explained that I didn't have that kind of money right now and they found me a scholarship for single moms. that covered the 2500 for this semester and next.
Talk to financial aid office. Get a school loan. If you're unemployed, you should be able to get her a Stafford loan through the school. Do NOT take your daughter out of school unless you absolutely exhausted all of your options. Can you get a private loan? or borrow the money from someone?
I'd help her find financial assistance in the form of a grant or loan. Talk with the Financial Aid Office as others have suggested. If she doesn't qualify for assistance or a loan, then this can be a good experience for her.
My parents were able to contribute only for my first year of college. I stayed out a year between high school and college and worked full time. I then worked part time some of the time while I was in school and full time during breaks and vacations. I graduated. Doing this was not a hardship for me. I think it helped me to mature. I am still proud that I was able to do this mostly on my own, financially., but with the emotional support of my family.
I've known students who've taken a year off before graduating college for a variety of reasons. They all eventually graduated. She can do this! Your emotional support is worth a lot by its self!
Yes, Our daughter is in college and the financial aid office is very helpful. Just explain it to them and ask what they suggest.
Others are right call the financial aid office, there are many options. just getting a job right now as you may know might not be an easy option. Finding good fiancial aid will/should be easier especially if you don't have any $$ or assets that can hinder her getting Scholarships.
First thing you need to do is talk to your daughter. Explain to her the situation. She is going to college now, she's not a little kid anymore. It's time to treat her like an adult. Then the 2 of you go to the college (or call if it's too far away) and talk to someone in the financial dept. They may be able to help you. Since you are unemployed now you may qualify for assistance you didn't qualify for before. But you need to do it now. Don't wait.
If they are not able to help her and she has to miss a semester, your daughter needs to know that too. Maybe she can get a job and help pay some of the tuition.
You need to contact the financial aid department right away and let them know of your financial situation. There may be more aid available for her, but you won't know until you ask and apply.
did she aply for student loans so many options out there ask school
