Anyone have a reassuring story of a swallowed object passing through without pain and complications???

My daughter swallowed a metal Magnetix ball yesterday and I took her to Children's ER. They said it would pass. YIKES! I can't imagine a three year old doing that without pain!

You can see her xray image on my blog: www.sillielillieboutique.blogspot.com

At a year and a half old, my daughter swallowed a penny. She did pass it just fine, but there were complications with it being in her system. She was allergic to the "nickel" in the penny. Otherwise, she passed it within the day.

Keep an eye on her and all should be fine.

If they told you that I would believe them. My daughter, when she was about 2, chewed and swalled 2 or 3 lights from the string on the tree!!! I FREAKED. I called my doctor and they said not to worry; that it would get coated in mucus and pass on through. It did.

Also my brother swallowed a quarter when he was little. Those balls are pretty small, I don't think you need to worry.

Take care,

Chris

Sounds familiar. When my son was about 4 or 5 he swallowed a small key to a bank and about 2 days later it came out with no problems for him, the problem was for us having to "check" for it every day. Have fun!! We saved the key.

When I was 4 I swallowed a nickel, and it passed without incident or pain. And I just called my mom to make sure I remembered correctly! She said the we never even know when it came out!

Believe it or not - it will pass without pain. The body is incredible. Especially since it is round and smooth I wouldn't worry too much, and there are all sorts of "magnetic" healing theories so it might even do her some good (ok, probably not GOOD), but it won't hurt her. My aunt swallowed a 6-7 quilting pins and then had to eat cotton-balls, so it could have been much worse! My only piece of advise, don't make too big a deal out of it. My daughter swallowed a penny by accident but got so much attention for it that she tried it again on purpose. Live and learn :) Best of luck!

My son swallow one too. He was two at the time. It did pass just fine. I actually forgot about it until I saw it in the diaper. That scared me all over again till I realized what it was. Needless to say, the rest got thrown away. My 6 year old was upset about that.

Luckily the magnet is not in the ball piece. Swallowing magnets can be fatal. They will move through tissue to get to each other. The new rule around here is "if it goes in your mouth, it goes in the trash".

They do make Magnetix Jr.if your kids really like playing with them. The pieces are too big for a child to fit in their mouth.

My son swallowed a penny when he wasn't quite 2, and yes, it passed right through...just a day or two later. The magnetix ball will come right out too, I am sure of it--and she will never even know.

My son swallowed a dime and passed it soon afterward. I remember freaking out! It is important to make sure it passes, so the unfortunate news is you need to look for it.

Good Luck!
