It sounds like she has an allergy. She needs some benadryl, a shower with mild soap, and to take it easy until the rash clears up. If the rash is on her face and hands and does not clear up after taking the benadryl, head to the doctor for steroids.

ETA: Please, if she shows any sign of breathing difficulty (coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath), call 9-1-1 immediately.

We don't know her or how old she is.
Call the nurse at the pediatrician's office.
That's why they're there.

Personally, I would do what Fuzzy said (first response below).

I have a child who is allergic to things, and we just automatically give him OTC Benadryl when he has a reaction. Sometimes we don't even know what caused it. But to get it under control, that's what we do. That being said, I know how my child reacts to Benadryl and we've had our doctor and allergist recommend it. If your child has never been on it before - always check with your doctor first.

And I would definitely get her into a bath. We use Aveeno to calm rashes, but baking soda as Fuzzy said will work too.

Good luck - I hope it clears up soon :)

Have you talked to her pediatrician? That's the first thing that you should be doing. You can ask for the nurse.

If she's itching, you can get benedryl from the pharmacist. The dose depends on her weight and age (ask the pharamicst.)

Personally, I'd get her in to be seen if the rash doesn't go away quickly, and if it gets ANY worse, I'd get her in fast. She may need a shot. You don't want her to end up with dermatitis - that's hard to get rid of.

Sounds like she is allergic to grass. Same thing happens to me. You can get the Benadryl spray and then make sure she stays off the grass, at least not sitting or laying on it. Good luck.

my first thought is otc benadryl. but when my ds had a whole body rash the dr wanted to see him and prescribed something stronger than the otc stuff.. so call the pedi and check with them on it.

It could be a reaction to any plant she rolled in, any pollen on the ground, or any pesticide or lawn treatment chemical. Baking soda bath if it's just a rash, perhaps epsom salts if it's a blistery rash (fluid-filled blisters as with poison ivy), and benadryl. You can take her to the pharmacy and perhaps the pharmacist can suggest an appropriate treatment based on looking at the rash. Cortisone creams are difficult to use all over the body, and rubbing them on can cause more itching.

But if she's miserable and this is all over her body, I'd consider a visit to the pediatrician. Someone needs to eyeball this rash if the pharmacist can't help.

How old is she? Was she rolling around naked, swimsuit, summer clothing?

Most of the time it is hard for Dr. to diagnose a particular rash and the allergen that caused it. If the outbreak is not too bad, they usually tell you to take benedryl and use Cortaid crème.

I think an oatmeal or Aveeno soothing bath might help along with the OTC.... HOWEVER... since you do not know the cause of the allergic reaction, I would FIRST call my pedi and get the recommendation from him/her.

My hubby is very allergic to Poison Ivy.. he doesn't have to touch it to get it. So far this summer he has been at the Dr. once for Steriods to help clear it up which helped a lot with the rash on his face and eyes. We live on a wooded lot and try to watch for it but he has had it over a month now on various areas of his body.

I wash sheets and clothing almost daily as well as making sure dogs are washed because it can come in on them as well. It is weird, I can rub it all over me and not have 1 reaction but it has put him in the hospital.

Good luck and like someone else said, make sure you watch her carefully for any sudden swelling, shortness of breath, etc. If you see that go to the ER.

A bath or shower, to start. Then depending on the type of rash, an anti-allergen pill or a topical cream. If could be a seasonal allergic reaction, a poisonous plant like ivy, sumac or nettles, or it could be a chemical rash from grass treatment.

You will need to take her to a dermatologist to know for sure.

Google Chigger bites, ant bites, flea bites, etc...and find out what kind of bites they are. Each one takes a different type of treatment.
