I have an almost 4 year old daughter who was born at 23wks gestation she was a twin but her sister passed away after a week. My question is this she is always sick I mean constantly sick the docs have run immune test and numerous others they all come back normal so iw as wondering if any one else has had the same experience with a child like mine. See i have a 6 year old who was hardly sick at all as an infant and to this day is very healthy as well as a new baby who is 3 months and he has yet to even get a summer cold so i just was wondering if any one else out there has experienced this. The docs say she will eventually outgrow it but when.. I mean other than being sick she is amazing she has had really no other long term issues from being born so early.

What can I do next?

I have an almost 3 year old nephew who was practically born with a constant runny nose and cough that has never gone away. I think it was finally decided that it was an allergy from dogs at daycare. Is there anyone smoking around her?

hi M., i know this is late, but i just saw your message in the highlight section. have you ever taken her to a naturopath? my son was born at 26 weeks (now 7), and was always sick with ear infections and respiratory stuff. i took him and my daughter who is 3 years younger to a naturopath and the difference is incredible. they see so much that western medicine doesn't see. please, if you can find one near you, consult with them. it could be that some system in her body just isn't functioning properly, and once that is corrected, her immune system will be able to fight off whatever is bothering her. check the website www.anma.com to see if there are any near you!

by the way, my son is an incredibly smart, very active and very healthy child. so amazing for having been 1 lb and 15 oz at 26 weeks. amazing what they can do, isn't it!

good luck!

All I can think of, M., is get the toxins out of the house ASAP! There are lots of them. Did you know that bleach and Lysol are actually registered pesticides?! Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo has formaldehyde releasers in it, also known as Quaternium 15. It is BAD, BAD, BAD for ones health. So many of the things we use in our home to clean it can actually cause some serious problems for our children and ourselves.
I am a customer of a company that sells environmentally safe products. I've been a customoer for over a year and my 4 children have NOT been to the doctor in over a year....hard to believe but true!!!
It's worth checking into for sure.
If you want the details, please send me a message with your phone # and I can call you and tell you more.
God bless!! Hope this helps!

Dear M.

I do not have a child that is ill often but I did see your other question on PPD. I have been told that it can take a year to feel better and that it can come a go. I have a 5 month old and I still get waves of it. I saw that you had lost one of your twins and I recently have had the same. I lost one of my boys due to twin to twin trasfusion at 34wks. I wanted to just say hi to someone else out there. I wish I know what to say about your daughters health.

I would suggest seeing a licensed herbologist or licensed acupuncturist and begin using some herbs to boost her immune system. Acupuncture can also help do this. Chiropractic is another alternative. (My 7-year-old sees all 3) Basically, start looking into natural/holistic medicine. They have a lot more to offer than people think. Also, as someone else stated, there are companies out there that offer all natural cleaning and health products. One is Melaleuca. I have used it for over 2 years and I love the products and it makes you feel good knowing you are keeping harmful chemicals out of your house and the environment!

well she was very early. and premature babies are very prone to having lung issues.(doesn't have to be pronounced) which then make them very prone to easily getting sick. even my grandma with copd gets sick very easily and fast.
have you talked to other moms/families of preemies to get their experiences?
have you taken her to a second pedi to get a second opinion?

every child is different and you can't very well compare your 23 weeker to a full term child.
i have a couple premature groups i belong to if you are interested in talking to some other families let me know and i will get you the sites..
just contactc me thru here.

she is truely blessed to have no other issues besides getting sick.

Hi M.,
Have you considered having your daughter looked at by a chiropractor? Lots of people have an improvement in their immune system with chiropractic treatment -- including me. Since I was a little kid I would get sinus infections and colds at least five times a year. It was awful. I started seeinga chiropractor about an issue with my hip and over the course of a year I noticed that I was having longer times between sinus infections. I have not had one in almost a year. Call around and find a chiropractor who regularly sees young children, they can make kids feel comfortable and the whole process fun, insteadof scary. Good luck!!

My brother was constantly sick and in the hospital. Breathing problems, allergies, etc. He is no 30 and only has problems with allergies at certain times of the year. He hasn't had even a cold in YEARS! Even hanging around my three boys who are always sick with a cold or ear infections or something...he never gets sick! Look at it as they are building up their immune systems! :-)

What a cool job you have!
Does your daughter have tubes? What kind of sickness are you referring to? Do you feel that the doctors are misdiagnosing her?
My gut is if you are not happy with what your doctor is telling you, go somewhere else. Remeber you vote with your dollar and your first concern is your child.

If you aren't finding the answers you are looking for through traditional medicine you could try to look (in addition to traditional med) at non-traditional meds. We go there right away if our md can't figure it out. If you would like some referrals email me :)
