Yellow Triaminic....I swear by it. I even take it. It keeps them loose and productive. I would know how much to give a child that age but i would put a little on my finger and let em' suck it off. Worked for us.
I need advice on how to deal with my 3-month-old son having his first cold. He's mostly over it, but he still wheezes now and again. His doc says it's reflux, but that explanation doesn't feel right...help, please.
I'm going to try the humidifier and steam bath as were suggested by some of you. I already had his crib mattress elevated as per the doc's orders. Thank you all for your help, I'll let you know how it goes.

I wonder if you are using a humidifier in the room, and another good thing if its cold related and their congestion is to let the hot water run through the shower pushed towards the wall, hold baby in your hands and close shower curtain and let baby have a good steaming with you. This could help loosen some of the congestion as well as make it easier for the baby to sleep and breath better at night. But please check with a hospital or a GOOD Doctor and ask to see that it is okay to do this with your child. Also if the doc says that it is reflux, he should be requesting to have a X-ray or exam to see if the baby is holding formula down and see that the baby is not ingesting the formula into the lungs. Praying the all stays well and that the baby will feel better. Have a blessed and healed day in Jesus Name!
B., I am a Registered Respiratory Therapist. It is true that reflux can cause symptoms similar to bronchitis. The acid comes up from the esophagus, and enters the region where both your bronchus (which leads to your lungs) and your esophagus meet. This can cause a chronic type cough, sometimes the lung tissue gets inflamed and causes wheezing. My daughter, now 6 months, also had this problem. She had to be placed on medication, but has since "grown" out of it. Remember to keep your son's crib elevated at the head to reduce the reflux. Sometimes a formula change can help. Best of luck!!
We (me, 19 month old & 1 month old) just got over a cold. We used a cold-mist vaporizer, Sudafed vapor plug, Little Noses saline drops, vapor lotion and vapor bath wash (both were "Johnson's" brand). For the rest of the family: Purell hand sanitizer & Vitamin C. Good luck
The little noses saline nose drops are wonderful. My almost 4 months old just got over a cold where he was wheezeing a little. The Dr. gave me some medicine for the sneezing and coughing but the nose spray really helped him well. Good luck i hope he feels better...
Have you tried the Vick's Baby Rub? It works really good and I have to use it all the time on my son who is 11 mths old. Also, they make vapor baby bath that you can put in while bathing them - it also works really good! I sometimes use this when I am getting sick. It's like taking a bubble bath.
They have a special bath that has vapor just for babies. It is by Johnson & Johnson. Also, I have found that taking my baby in the shower with me helps to clear out all that congestion. We will take multiple showers through out the day and night, but it always brings instant relief to the little guy! Don't forget your humidifier!!!
Good Luck
Mommy jenni had a great idea. I do the same when my 3 month old got his head cold. But if your doctor thinks it is reflux it very well could be. My three months old has the same thing and sounds likes he gurgling or like hes having trouble swallowing and its due to his reflux. Believe me dont over look that, it really hurts the baby when reflux kicks in. Also look for him spitting alot of bubbles from his lips.
Hi B.,
Has your pediatrician medicated your son for reflux? If he still wheezes after being properly treated for reflux, it's not reflux. If he hasn't beent reated for reflux, he has probably has irritation from reflux irritating things causing wheezing sounds.
Hi my son had reflux when he was first born. He very rarely threw up...like you are saying its more of a wheezing.... the acid from his food is probably coming back up into his esophagus... try making him sit up for at least 30 min after his meals and continue to follow the docs. directions for the cold... if the wheezing is still occurring after the cold is completely gone i would talk to your doc. about getting your son on some meds.... my son took zantac... hope this is some hep to you!
Try saline drops to loosen up the mucous in his nose. My daughter used to wheeze when she got what we thought was a cold. We had to take her to get breathing trestments a few times for the wheezing. The doctor diagnosed her with Reactive Airways. It's not quite Asthma, but it's treated as Asthma if they get breathing treatments. Ultimately we found out that she was allergic to the chemicals in the new carpet at my brothers apartment.
