My 8 Month Old Baby Is Drinking Less Milk Everyday, and Hasn't Rolled Over.

My (almost) 8 month old baby still shows no sign of rolling over by himself. I put him on his tummy several times everyday, but mostly, he's just being lazy, and shows no effort to roll over or even move around. Sometimes he creeps a bit, but it's very rare that he does that, and eventually, he'll cry. He can sit for a long time now, though. He's also drinking less milk everyday.. I feed him milk about 5 times/day, and he drinks only about 4 oz per feeding.,sometimes more if I'm lucky. I feed him solid food 3 times/day now.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of your advice. My doctor says that if my baby still hasn't rolled over by 9 months, then she will arrange to have a physical therapist to check on my baby. For now, she suggested that i'd be more discipline on putting him on his tummy and practicing to roll over , etc. thanks again for everything.

Dear Elys,
I usually just brows through the messages but yours caught my attention. I am a grandma raising a grandchild (now 5). Second time around I feel I need to be up on the newest and at the same time refer to my resources of experience.
Your child is 8 months old and unable to turn around? That is something you must attend to pronto. Go see your pediatrician. I don't think your little one is just lazy.
Usually they walk at 12 months and certainly start crawling at 8-10 months. Again, to be sure make an appointment with your pediatrician and have the baby checked thouroughly sooner rather than later! Good wishes, EMT

Hi there ~

I would definitely take these concerns to your pediatrician. Since you are feeding solids, your baby
will tend to ease up on the bottle a bit. 4 oz. sounds about right at a time, but please check with your doctor!!
Sometimes babies are given things often and are lazy...they don't feel a need to get going. Try taking a favorite toy, showing him/her, and then put it a little ways away so he'll reach for it or may be enticed to roll over to see it. That's great that your baby is sitting up and can stay there for a length of time!!

Good luck!!

Hi there,
I would definitely speak to your pediatrician (first to rule out any medical possibilities for him not rolling or moving very efficiently). I used to teach early childhood special education and am very familiar with developmental milestones. Your little one should really have been rolling a long time ago. I don't mean to startle you, but I would bring it up right away with your Ped. because you can have access to free early intervention services through your local school district to help your baby reach milestones, should you need it. Early intervention is key, so don't wait okay? It could be a delay to many things (that's why it's good to bring it up with Doc. first) and then call your school district to get an assessment ordered.
Good luck, I know it can be nerve-wracking sometimes being a mama and wanting everything to be okay. I'm with ya.

Babies develop different skills at different speeds. But I would still check with your pediatrician about his motor skills and feeding now if you can instead of waiting for his 9 month well check, especially since you're concerned.

Are you giving your baby Milk? As in cows milk? Or formula or breast milk? Children under one year of age should be breast fed or on formula, straight cows milk is very hard on thier system. I would check with your pediatrician about his dietary needs. 20 oz of formula/breast milk a day would seem adequate when supplemented with healthy solid foods.

Has your son reached other 8 mo. milestones? I have used What to Expect in the First Year as a source for developmental milestones. There is developemental info online, as well as books at the library. Your pediatrician should be familiar with how your baby is developing and should be able to address your concerns.

Some of my children were late to turn over or crawl, but met or excelled in other age related developmental tasks. It could be he just has no interest in moving himself around. One of my kids crawled for a very short time, she preferred to scoot around in a sitting position and went from that to walking. Good luck and be sure to talk to your baby's doctor.
