My daughter's 7, and there are a couple of kids in her class who's underarms are awful. Just put deodorant on him
My son is going to be 7 in July, and for some reason his underarms are stinking.
I dont think thats normal, what can I do?

L.,
I was experiencing the same thing last summer with my son. He just turned 7. I could not believe he was having actual body odor in his pits! At such a young age. I tried Dial soap, Axe body wash, etc etc etc. Nothing made a difference. UNTIL..
This is going to sound crazy but give it a try....switch to organic milk. I switched to organic milk and NO MORE B.O.!!! I was amazed. It's the hormones in regular milk! He still uses his Tom's of maine deodorant because he likes it though :-) But there's really no longer a need.
Yes that happens already at that age.
Use deodorant. Not antiperspirant.
My daughter is 7, and she uses the "Arm & Hammer Essentials Natural Deodorant" which has no aluminum and no paraben in it.
My daughter has no problem using deodorant. I tell her her armpits are stinky, and she uses it everyday as a matter of routine, putting it on before she gets dressed for school. Its just matter of fact. Just like Mommy and Daddy does.
all the best,
Susan
Boys are REALLY stinky. It gets worse as they hit puberty. I can remember that I would not go near my 12 year old son's bedroom. My son started using deodorant at a young age and I can also remember saying, "Get in the shower." Hygiene is just second nature for him now and he is 15. I have a 6 year old also and I will be starting the cycle again soon.
What goes into the body must come out. And sweat is one of the key ways the body releases toxins.
Bathing regularly is one way, but ultimately he will probably need to use something
Here is what you need to know about deodorant and antiperspirant:
- choose natural
- deodorants neutralize the smell by killing the bacteria that metabolizes the proteins and fatty acids
- Antiperspirants prevent sweating by blocking pores using aluminum (Humans absorb aluminum through the skin)- it is in essence an over the counter drug and are regulated by the FDA
- The data from one study indicate that the degree of antiperspirant/deodorant usage and auxiliary shaving is associated with an earlier age of breast cancer diagnosis.
- Natural deodorants are available from your local health food store but many homemade recipes are also effective.
You decide what is best for you and your child

Don't worry, we recently went through the same thing with our 7 year old son. Come to find out, he wasn't using soap to wash under his arms in the shower. If your son showers independently, you might just want to ask him and then watch him wash to be sure he's actually doing it. I don't think it's anything to worry about. As soon as we got on him about it, the stinking went away. :-)
When my son was 6 he too had armpit stink.
Plenty of soap, water and deodorant.
not sure if its normal or not, but my son has the same issue. he just turned 8, & for the past few months we have him using deoderant on days we know he will run - sports days, gym days, hot days etc. we got Arm & Hammer has a pretty chemical free one, smells nice..he's a bigger kid & starting with hair on his legs.. we assumed he is just closer to changes than the average 8 yr old & possibly has active sweat glands.. give the doederant a try.. it is weird to remind your young son to put it on all the time tho..
You can use a mixture of baking soda and cornstarch. If I remember correctly, it's 2 parts baking soda to 1 part cornstarch. Then you just use it like you do talcum powder. Teach him to take a powder puff and put it under his arm pits.
I have an 8 year old son and my other son will be 7 at the end of this month my 8 year old has been wearing deodorant for nearly 2 years and my 6 soon to be 7 year old has stinky pits every so often...it is normal sad to say kids go through puberty much younger now days because of all the hormons pumped into foods...No worries just get him some deodorant and if he hasnt had a check up in a while maybe set one up with his doctor and tell him your concerns :)
Dear L., I do not know your son but is he chubby? When a child sweats they can be stinky. Make sure you rinse all the soap off when you bathe him. Also if you eat a lot of Garlic it will come out through the skin and be smelly. Just a few possibilities. My best, Grandma Mary
My son had the same problem starting around 6 or 7. I bought him deodorant from the healthfood store that is a deodorant, but not an antiperspirant b/c I was told it's not good to start them w/antiperspirant too early. Good Luck!
It's a bit of of a shocker when your sweet baby starts not smelling so sweet anymore, isn't it? It's not just boys and it's not abnormal! It's really the first sign of puberty. Happened to my daugher when she was 8.
I agree - natural deodorants only, have him drink only the organic milk. Also, drink plenty of water and keep wetwipes that he can give his armpits a swipe with when he gets sweaty/stinky.
