My 5 1/2 Has Frequent Headaches

My 5 1/2 year old daughter recently has been having frequent headaches. To my knowledge they started last Tuesday and since then, she's had a headache almost everyday. Her demeanor hasn't changed much, she's still being pretty active, although sometimes she will lay down to rest. I called the advice nurse last night and ran through her battery of questions, finally all she said was that she could be coming down with something, but my daughter is not displaying any other symptoms, except that she had a slight fever (100 degrees). Is there something else I should be looking for? Is it ok to keep giving her Tylenyol ( I don't like to use medicine to often).I'm not being overly paranoid, but my daughter can't articulate what causes the headaches, I just want them to stop. Has anyone ever experienced their child(ren) with headaches?

What can I do next?

I think you should go to the doctor to make sure nothing is going on... especially since the headaches are new. My daughter gets headaches if she is too hungry. But I did have her checked out as well, just in case.

Dear L., I'd call her doctor back and request/demand to be seen. While occassional headaches are normal, I would be concerned about a headache that lasts for over a week. Good luck!

Hi L.! Have you gotten her eyes checked? If she is straining to see that could be causing the headaches. I would take her to the eye doctor just to make sure she doesn't need glasses. If that isn't it then I would take her to see her doctor. Hope you figure out what is causing them!

I don't think children are supposed to get headaches. I would take her into the doctor. Watch for any nausea or vomiting!

My son also had frequent headaches. I had his eye checked only to find out that the eye doc felt his problem was "central" Meaning how the brain is communicating to the eyes. We found it to be a sensory issue and from that point sought a therapy to work with the problem. His eyes still get very tired, more than the average child, but now his teacher and I know what "signs" to look for when his eyes are getting over stimulated and give him the appropriate rest before the headaches or visual disturbances occur. His visual senses are much better also due to his vision therapy. We love HANDLE, but there are many therapies to choose from.
Wishing you the best,

My daughter had something similar around age 7. I did go in to my doctor so they could do the basic neurological tests (touching finger to her nose with each hand, etc.). All I know is that it made ME feel better to go in! Ultimately, we decided it was allergies.
