My little one is low on iron so maybe that is her issue. We've had that before where she's passed out (I also used to when I was younger due to the same low iron levels). You might have to get some blood work done. Best of luck. So scary!
Hello friends, this morning I was doing my 3 y/o's hair and she kept putting her head down and said i don't feel good, my tummy and chest hurt, then she got extremly pale, lips where "white" and as I picked her up to carry her to my bed she got limp(this is what mkes me think she fainted), plus got clammy and broke a cold sweat.I didn't have juice so I gave her a lil bit of fruit salad and she felt better within minutes. I had gestational diabetes with her, so I felt the need to check her sugar, mind you she had just ate the fruit salad 10 minutes ago, and her sugar was 146, which I think is high considering only 10 minutes had passed since she ate the fruit. Any thoughts? I left a message for someone at the peds office to call back, but no one has,and it's impossible to ask to speak to a ped over the phone. I gave her a good breakfast and took her to daycare as I needed to get to work, but I'm sittig here wondering what the heck happened. I allready called to check on her and they told me she's hr usual self. She hasn't been sick and had been acting her normal self up until this morning. Any suggestions/comments/advise are greatly appreciated ;)
I made an apptm with her ped, I'll get her checked out this afternoon. I also found this article which i thought was so interesting especially since I was doing her hair when this happened Common Causes of Fainting
Brushing Syncope:
Hair grooming syncope most commonly occurs in young women who experience nausea, light headedness, sweating, and visual disturbances before fainting. Research suggests that the pulling of the hair or scalp has an effect on a particular nerve in the head that triggers the faint.
p.s
we just got back from the doctors and her physical evaluation came back normal. the doc went ahead an sent out a refferal for an ekg which will be done in about 2 weeks. She said sometimes a lil arrythmia can cause fainting but that they are usually harmless. We'll see what the cardiologist says. To the M. who cant understand why i'd leave my child at daycare after this, well the ladies at her daycare are like sisters to me, my work is 1 minute away from the daycare, so after she normalized I knew in my heart that she was fine to go to school just like I knew she was in great hands and I knew that i could be by her side in a heartbeat if anything should of happened. I understand what you mean though, because had i worked farther away there's no way i would of left her.

It is essential that you have her checked by a doctor. I probably would've taken her to the ER or Urgent care. At the least I'd call the advice nurse at the hospital. Did you tell why you wanted a call back when you called the doctor's office? If not, call back now and tell them this is urgent. Ask to speak with advice nurse.
Normal blood glucose levels should be between 70 and 125 when not fasting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_sugar
I'm not familiar with fainting when blood sugar levels are too high. I doubt very much that high blood sugar level is cause of her fainting but only a doctor can tell you. I'm also not familiar with blood glucose levels in children. Acceptable numbers may be different. PLEASE CALL HER DOCTOR and insist on talking with someone now.
My brother is diabetic and clammy with a cold sweat are symptoms of low blood sugar. I suggest that measuring her level after having given her fruit salad really doesn't tell you anything about why she fainted.
What I do, when I need attention from the doctor's office, is push the button for "true emergency" or "make an appointment." That'll get a human being on the line. Then say, "I need to talk to a doctor or a nurse right now; I need an appointment today." If that's not an option at your doctor's office, take her to the ER or urgent care.
If this had happened to one of my kids, I would be in the urgent care center with them.
I think that perhaps your history with gestational diabetes is coloring your judgment here. You need to get a DOCTOR to figure out what is wrong with your daughter, and not just expect that it has something to do with her blood sugar level. I'm not saying that you are wrong. I am saying that you need to get her to the doctor and not just guess at this.
Please get her checked out.
Dawn
My 7 year old daughter fainted 2 weeks ago, she was sick and not eating well and not taking it as easy as she should have been (I should have been making her). I called the doctor who called me back immediately (you need a new Dr if they aren't calling you back immediately with this situation). I then took my daughter to the ER where we spent the day checking her heart, blood pressure, sugar levels etc.
Your daughter could just have had a low blood pressure due to not eating. She could also be developing a heart problem that will take her life quickly if not treated.
You need to get your daughter the medical care she needs immediately. I would be worried about her heart.
My goodness! That's so scary! First of all, your blood glucose strips are out of date if you used the strips that you had while pregnant with her. 146 is not an accurate number in that regard, so throw the number out and make an appointment for her to be seen by her pediatrician, ASAP.
I hope all is well!
Edit* Your daughter may not have a blood sugar problem at all! My kids both have Type 1 diabetes and neither of them have ever had problems like you described. Also, if I saw a 146 blood glucose for one of my kids, I would cheer! :) I would be much more concerned about her tummy and chest hurting and her subsequent reaction than *anything* blood sugar related.
Per your SWH...... Wow, I learned something new today! I had never heard of Brushing Syncope. That's so interesting! I'm off to read more about it!
I think if anything, she was too low on her levels & the fruit salad kicked her to 146.
When I crash, I have her symptoms. When my husband (who's on insulin) crashes, he really goes thru the clammy/cold sweat stage. In fact, this happened just recently & his whole body was covered in ice cold sweat. His score was 76 prior to eating/drinking.
Time to be hitting the doctor's office. Hope everything goes well. You can crash like this without being a diabetic.....it truly can be a one-time event. :)
I hesitated to reply earlier... I am not an alarmist or one to run to the Dr for every little thing, but I cannot fathom putting my child in anyone's care after an unexplained loss of consciousness without first having her examined by a medical professional. Quite frankly, I'm surprised they allowed you to leave her... hope shes okay, but neurological occurrences just aren't something to take lightly unless you KNOW what's going on.
I'm sorry this happened. I would have taken her to the ER right then and there - but that's me. ESPECIALLY with chest pain and turning white.
My thoughts for this spell? Juvenile Diabetes. A sugar level of 146 is kinda high, in my opinion. Just because you had gestational diabetes, does not mean she contracted it from you. It's a genetic thing.
I hope all is well and it's nothing serious.
Good luck,
The only time I fainted in my life was when I was 10 and my mom was doing my hair brushing it out to put in curlers. Hope your dd is fine.
thx for the article hope you know what caused it
I'm glad you're getting her checked out. It's hard for me to understand how it was more important to go to work first, and to a job where you were able to go online for something personal, when she was complaining of chest pains and then passed out.
