My 1St Grader Has Gotten Lice Twice from School, Help

My first grader has gotten lice twice in the past six weeks. We have changed schools and this is the first time we've ever had anything like this. We have washed his hair, wash sheets, and sprayed the entire house. I have three other children and have washed there hair. The school refuses to send home notes warning parents about the possiblity of a child having it in their classroom. I'm so mad, it seems like that is making this situation worse, by not letting people know. And letting the kids with lice keep coming back even thou they are still infested. Any suggestion would be help fun.

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for all of your suggestions and support. I have now cleaned my entire house. We have now been free of lice. However I check my sons head everyday, untill I know they have it under control. The school informed me that there are a few kids in my sons class that had it all last year.(we're new to the school) The school has cleaned but I still don't feel they are handling the problem with out consulting the other kids about the issue. So at this point we're just waiting to see if it is resolved.

My kids have never gotten lice before but my concern is that the school won't send a note home. You should call the school district and complain. I've never seen a note regarding lice but my kids are in KISD and they've sent notes home regarding whooping cough and other things. I think it's the school's responsibility to inform parents of such things because otherwise how would we know.

Garlic Tablets!!!! Saved my daughter after getting lice 4 times one year. After garlic SHE never got it again; not so with the rest of her class. Shaklee has garlic tablets that doesn't make you or your breath smell like garlic. If your child can't swallow the tablets, crush them and put them in food or make garlic bread with them.

if you can't find neem shanmpoo... add rosemary oil to your regular shampoo... or just add some to your conditioner. that should help. Good luck!!!! ~C.~

Herbal Lice Treatment

12 drops Eucalyptus essential oil
25 drops Rosemary essential oil
13 drops Geranium essential oil
25 drops Lavender essential oil
5 drops Tea tree oil essential oil
5 drops Cypress essential oil
5 drops Citrus essential oil
3 oz. vegetable oil

Shake ingredients in a shaker i.e.: cruet. Let sit on hair for 2-3 hours. Wrap hair in saran wrap or put a plastic shower cap over the hair. This should do 2 treatments. This is a very effective method of getting rid of these bugs (At least it worked well for my family). Put this treatment on dry hair for best results and then cover with a shower cap.

The most important thing to do to get rid of the lice is to make sure that you get ALL of the nits out. They are the eggs and will hatch. This is the one thing that is not killed by any treatments, even the store treatments. You must pull them out by hand. When my children had lice, I spent hours and hours pulling the nits and the bugs out by hand. We used the beer and the essential oil treatments.

Mayo .. used like the olive oil or Vaseline

Crisco (used the same way)

Goop (used the same way) Vinegar - used to help loosen nits. Mix with conditioner (50 50) and spray on..

Oh my- we had our first lice experience this year too! It is a real pain to get rid of. I realized what my daughter had after I sent her to school and had her pulled out of class, then they checked my other daughter and we were full of them. I questioned the teacher about a note going home and it was not mandatory! I was angry because I wanted other kids NOT to get it. I did have to call several parents because we were at many parties over that weekend. Luckily no one else ended up with it.

We used olive oil with a little tea tree oil about every 3 days and then rinsed with vinegar after we used the rid kit for 3 weeks. It worked! I drenched the girls (along with myself) with it, then we put a shower cap (99 at walgreens)on for about 3 hours, rinsed with water, then rinsed with white vinegar, let set for 5 minutes, rinse, wash with shapmpoo, condition, and then blowdry. I know it seems like a lot, but it beats the alternative.

Remember to check their hair every night-it just takes 1 nit/egg for it to start all over again. Also you may want to consider purchasing new brushes. It's an added expensive expense, but they may be hanging out in there too.

Good luck

Yes, we went through a similar situation at our school last year. The situation will only get worse until you let everyone know about the problem so parents can be aware. Also, our school started checking every child's head as they came to school and implemented a strict policy that anyone found with lice had to be sent home for at least 24 hours and thoroughly checked before being allowed back in the school. It took us about a month and sending probably 10% of the school home at various times but it hasn't been back. They are also doing systematic proactive checking every month now.

As for keeping your household free. I found some Neem shampoo and conditioner and mixed some tee tree oil with it. It repels them and the Neem attacks the lice nervous system killing them before they can reproduce. It's all natural and safe.

If I were you, I would make a noise at the school and say that if they won't inform the parents, you will. Pass out fliers outside the school, do whatever it takes. It doesn't just GO
away.

Good luck!

I had heard that coconut shampoo and Tree Oil in the shampoo helps. I keep my son's hair cut short b/c of this. They had an outbreak in his preschool once and he was one of three kids that did not get in in several classes! They said it had a lot to do with his short hair cut. My friend's daughter came home with lice but she couldn't figure out why her two little ones didn't get the lice. She then noticed the two little ones used coconut shampoo for kids and her oldest used her shampoo for adults. They all use coconut shampoo now and no more problems. They have a lot about it on the internet.

You can try rinsing his head with vinegar. My girl had lice once. She's got long hair almost to her waist but I didn't want to cut it. My mother-in-law suggested rinsing with vinegar. The vinegar acts like a shield and the lice won't be able to stick to the hair. Plus it makes hair shiny! Just shampoo as usual then rinse head with vinegar then rinse with water.

Arbonne's Self-Adjusting Shampoo with Tea Tree Oil will help and is alot safer than other products on the market for it. Tea Tree Oil is a a natural solution that drives lice away if you've got 'em, and keeps 'em away if you don't. They've been using it for lice in Europe for years.

I sell Arbonne products so please feel free to contact me if you would like more information or if I can be of any futher help.
