Hi,
My cutie pie baby boy started walkin a week ago and I have not seen any walking baby shoes at Target nor baby's R us to buy except for the ones that are soft and made out of fabric. I get all kinds of advice from my parents and some other people wether to get soft shoes or hard sole shoes... that got me all confussed. What is the ideal type of shoe for a baby that just started walking. Is there any special type that I should buy, or any standard? and where to find them? I know if I got them online I could get the wrong size since my baby's feet are bigger and wider than the standard 11 year old baby's. He is tall and even though he is not even a year old I have to buy 18-24 month old clothes and shoes to feet him, so he is very unpredictable when it comes to sizes. So I would like to go the the actual store and have him try them on before buying. But any advice is wellcomed.

I would appreciate any comment and advice...

Thanks.
Susana

So What Happened?

Hi all that gave me advices on what shoes to get for my little one. Well, I have to tell you guys that I am so pleased with all of the responses and I checked every single brand and type of shoes you mentioned and they are awesome! I did not realize how important is to careful pick shoes for your toddler. I feel so educated now to know that there are special attention to our little ones when it comes to that matter. i love the pedipeds and the ones they sell in the stores you mentioned. I did the research and I will follow your refferences, for sure!

I love pediped's!! I ordered mine online, but there are a lot of stores that carry them. Just go to pediped.com and click on store locator. They're really great and come in lots of cute styles. My little guy just started walking too. Isn't it so cute?

I'm a HUGE Target & BRU shopper, but when it came time to buy my son his first set of shoes I went directly to Stride Rite! They have phases of shoes depending on the stage of walking. They have professional people to correctly measure - who would have know my son wears a DOUBLE WIDE! They are costly...his first pair cost $50 - but have lasted 5 months! When it comes to his shoes, I decided one or two nice pairs are better than a bunch of cutesy ones! Once you know his proper size, I suggest trying a Stride Rite outlet...you can get some good deals, but still have quality! TIP: If he is only going to wear them once or twice (Christmas dress shoes) then I get them at Payless!

For just being at home, I would just get the soft soled ones, or let him go barefoot. That way your baby's feet can get used to walking, helping their feet grip the ground and promote muscle development.
Here, read this website, it will give you some great information.

I used Robeez. They were great for my first time walker. They have them at Nordstroms and Stride Rite.
